Has anyone heard anything official!?!? The rumor in my circle is that we're getting paid through the 8th (on the 15) and then to expect back pay.
Anyone got anything? 4/7/2011 4:10:59 PM |

This is relevant to my interests. If the government doesn't fix anything, the budget will get shut down midnight Friday, so I assume we will get paid for time we worked up until then. After that, fuck if I know.

If the budget (or at least a temporary fix) does not get approved by COB Friday, our mid month pay will be 1 Apr - 8 Apr...yay.
Also, due to how some bases are set up, some DECA (commissaries) and Exchanges might be closed until the budget is approved.

I don't really give a shit about the paycheck (personally...it's gonna screw a lot of people, particularly the younger guys who don't have much put away). I'm waiting on my orders to move this summer, though, and they won't give them to me until a budget is passed so that the moves are funded.
I therefore can't do anything in terms of putting my house up for sale or rent, or generally planning my life for the next few months. I have a feeling that once the budget is passed, my orders are gonna come out, and it's gonna be "Surprise! You're moving in 3 weeks. Good luck!" 4/7/2011 6:12:36 PM |

The 'stopgap' is a full budget for DOD through September and a week-long stopgap for the rest of the government.

Anyone who doesn't see this as a stunt is wildly misguided. The GOP is using the military to sneak in their ideological dogma and it's disgusting. I listened to Boortz, Rush and Hannity today and none of those idiots would acknowledge WHY the president said he would veto this measure but rather focused solely on "Obama doesn't want to pay the troops". . . 4/7/2011 6:37:26 PM |

At least their ideology and dogma--in this instance, anyway--is to take at least a tiny step towards complying with the U.S. Constitution, being fiscally responsible, and reducing the scope and intrusiveness of the federal government.
It's a drop in the bucket, and the GOP will fuck up 100 other things soon enough, but good for them for being obstinate on this one. 4/7/2011 7:07:51 PM |

House bill passed.
It's in Senator Reid's and the President's hands now.
People will know who led to the shutdown.
Please, HockeyRoman, tell us why the President is going to veto a bill (as if the Senate Democrats would even pass the bill) that will keep the Federal Government from shutting down.
And please keep in mind why this is happening in the first place. 4/7/2011 7:16:18 PM |

This wouldn't even be an issue if the republicans hadn't attached their social agenda riders to this bill. The President has already agreed to a number of fiscal cuts but that wasn't good enough for the far-right tea-bagger loons and they are holding the rest of the republicans by the balls. 4/7/2011 7:26:30 PM |

A few high-priority moves are getting approved. If you're moving within CONUS, out of the operational forces and into a B-billet, you're gonna be very low on the priority scale, and probably won't get any orders until a budget (or at least FY11 DoD funding) is passed. 4/7/2011 8:42:52 PM |

The abortion and clean air things will have to be taken out or we could be looking at another three week shutdown (like with Clinton). Also, Congress has their two week easter vacation coming up the week after next.......Do you REALLY except Dems to approve this bill that is against the party's pro choice stance? Really?!?!?!?! That was all smoke and mirrors by the GOP. It had no chance to ever pass anything but the House. I have read that the wording on the abortion rider is being changed. It will probably be so vague that it will be useless. The Senate will pass their version (clean bill), then what usually happens is the a several members from both chambers get together and try to come up with one bill that would then have to be passed by both chambers.
I thought the budget war was going to happen for FY12, since it looks like the parties are trillions apart.

I wish Planned Parenthood would be left out of this ...I used to volunteer in the clinic for them and they did a lot of good for all kinds of folks, particularly low-income young men and women who were trying to get sexual health checks and contraception. When I didn't have health insurance for a spot, I was able to get birth control from them for $3/month. Seriously baller.
But right, we all know this.
