total snooze fest up there
everything is a 15 minute waste of time from everything else -but at least I get to rest easy knowing that my frivolous gas usage undermines both my financial well-being and the security of my nation
every bar in the area is like every other bar - same boring beers and the same boring food the music, the decor, the bar ware is all the same
its a culture of DUIs and obesity - if you don't have one you're getting the other (some people are champs and shoot for both!)
say what you will about the shitbag hipsters (and they ARE shitbags) at least when they ride their fixed gear drunk the only person likely to get killed is THEM 4/14/2011 4:10:13 AM

having moved to north raleigh within the last few months I will say its nice being within walking distance of my gym, grocery store, abc store and the dog park but I'd rather move back to the hillsborough street area.
Too many yuppies up here, and the traffic is awful. Also I never hang out up here, and have grudgingly accepted that I have to drive 30 min to get to ncsu and downtown areas
If I had my pick I'd live in between Cameron Village and NCSU above PR's.

it is what it is...
it's a suburb...

i'm a fan of the suburbs though...but then again i grew up in the country so only being 10 minutes from city like raleigh beats the shit out of only being 20 minutes from a grocery store

I only go up there for golf, disc golf, and for stores that are only located up there. I can't believe it, but I'd rather go to Cary for most everything N. Raleigh has to offer. As for hanging out, I really only go to stuff around Campus (Hillsborough, MV, CV) and down town, and occasionally places around where I live (ie: places on Lake Boone or around Crabtree) 4/14/2011 11:15:32 AM

I agree with a lot of what's being said in this thread. N. Raleigh is pretty boring, and from my location (off Chamberlain St.), it's much easier to go to Cary for any kind of shopping. N. Raleigh isn't worth the hassle. I live closer to campus now than I ever did when I was in school (save freshman year), but it's a great location.

I grew up in Apex. Can't hate on it honestly, it's close enough to Raleigh and Cary for convenience, but manages to retain some small town character.

I live in Chicago. It's nice for 23-27, but I don't want to raise my kids here. I can understand the angst of a place like North Raleigh, but people start to care less about things (beers, bars, decor?) when they get more concerned about how their kids'll turn out. 4/14/2011 11:38:01 AM

I've enjoyed living in N Raleigh. We have a greenway entrance right outside our doorstep and are central to 440 and 540. It's got its perks and pitfalls just like everywhere else...
And no DUIs in our house...Zingo is very reasonable from downtown or wherever to our place.

middle-aged soccer moms and their golfing husbands go out to the bars (separately) to meet up with their respective friends...
these people get shit housed like none other because that's the only exciting thing going on in their lives and their only escape from the kids, dogs, and each other...
but because they all live so "close" to the bars they drive...to and from...even when they clearly shouldn't...
i used to see it ALL THE TIME when i worked at the bar in apex
i can definitely see that more than the obesity thing

Surely people drive home drunk from bars all over raleigh...not just in suburban environments? Is the argument that per capita your average suburban bar goer is more likely to drive home drunk?] 4/14/2011 12:02:17 PM

^^^it was a response to what Crede said. And tell me how it's not true that people have a perception that they have to move away from a city into some cookie cutter suburban hell to "settle down" and raise a family. Cookie cutter surburbia in this case being the lacking in personality I referenced.
I mean power to them if they want to, I don't care.
^Suburban areas are by design more spread out so getting around via car is more of a necessity. So drunk driving there (even if there aren't more instances of it) requires longer drives. You can't get around that fact.

I always thought of it as stuff north of the beltline between Creedmoor/Glenwood and Wake Forest/Falls of Neuse. Maybe extending the rightmost boundary out to Capital.
The roads I always get confused because I never travel them regularly. Lynn, Leesville, Lead Mine. Probably should toss in a few more "L" roads in that area for good measure. 4/14/2011 12:15:09 PM

i live in North West Raleigh and love it (near intersection of Lynn and Leesville and close to Glenwood). I'm in walking distance to the grocery store, gas station, bank, lowes and my favorite bar/restaurant (Lynnwood Grill which is building a new place with rooftop patio whoot whoot). I'm 15 mins from work in RTP and a $20 cab ride to downtown. i love my neighbor hood, neighbors and location. one day I would like to live further out in the country but there is plenty time for that. where i'm at now is a great place to raise a family. 4/14/2011 12:16:18 PM
