I really don't want to say too much, but I was hoping that someone with legal knowledge that wouldn't mind talking to me could PM me. One of my family members is going through a divorce (in another state), and things have gone terribly bad. Your help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. 4/14/2011 5:14:38 PM |

unless the person on TWW is a bar-certified lawyer in that particular state, they can't really give you advice
and last I checked we didnt have that many lawyers on TWW to begin with, and most of them are in NC. 4/14/2011 8:09:04 PM |

Get Alice Stubbs as a lawyer. She'll write up a deal so good your family member could retire immediately after the divorce... and probably enough to toss you a couple grand as a finders fee. 4/14/2011 8:44:28 PM |

This, and...if what you're saying is going on is really going on (which is rarely true)...then your cousin's current attorney needs to be turned into his state's Bar and possibly sued for malpractice.4/15/2011 9:12:50 AM |

My cousin's ex is a State Trooper, and so he has been using their attorney. No other attorney will go against him in the state. And she has email conversations between him and his attorney stating what they are going to do to her.
It seems she is in a tough situation where the lawyers are corrupt and there isn't much she can do... I don't know. I was hoping that someone with some legal knowledge could help me point her in the right direction. 4/15/2011 9:23:18 AM |

If it's really like that, then she should be able to find an attorney that's not afraid of a State trooper. Tell her to ask around for a bad-ass attorney and go to that attorney's office with a copy of those emails.
What state is she in? 4/15/2011 9:53:09 AM |

yeah, while i get that certain situations can be intimidating and may carry their own unique level of risk of retribution in some manner, i guarantee you there is a john grisham-esque attorney relatively near your cousin who doesn't give a rat's ass about the state troopers
ESPECIALLY if there's email evidence...i'm making certain assumptions based on what you've said, but it sounds like there's pretty damning evidence of malpractice/coercion/blackmail/threats/whatever and it should be enough to tell the state trooper to fuck themselves 4/15/2011 9:56:51 AM |

sounds like it's incidental that he's a state trooper. The other attorneys are avoiding the lawyer that he's retained. 4/15/2011 3:30:27 PM |

I'm thinking not. Prob more like a number of his trooper buddies have gotten divorced, and they've all hired the same lawyer. 4/15/2011 8:25:16 PM |

^ the difference in this situation is that the guy's a state trooper. he would have a much better chance in a murder trial than joe schmoe who works at cisco. 4/17/2011 12:39:39 PM |

I was kinda on this thought process, but its kinda hard to justify this reasoning when I am a little biased and worried about my cousin.
Her soon-to-be-husband is very vindictive. Some of you guys are probably pretty amazing and forgiving to your wives/girlfriends/SOs, but he is out to cut throats. I have seen this a number of times in other men. I can see where it can be intimidating.
Basically, his feelings are hurt...
