Closed/destroyed?

I heard a rumor that the park was damaged by the weather last weekend and closed indefinitely. Can anyone confirm?

Thanks!

according to their website http://www.carolinapinesdogpark.com/

Quote :
"Due to the recent April 2011 storms across our area the Carolina Pines Dog Park is temporarily closed until the park can be cleared and cleaned up. According to the city they will get to it after residential areas have been taken care of."

I wonder if the one in Oakwood Park was damaged.

Oakwood was, it's missing part of the fence and has trees that fell down

I have pictures of both, but I forgot they were the parks before I looked at them later. So many trees were down that the empty space was basically taken up entirely.

Going to try and find the right pictures.

Lame! Hopefully they're fixed soon.

I will say one thing for Cary. Membership fee for dog park means damages get fixed immediately

Where is the dog park in Cary and how much do they charge?

I'm kind of upset about Oakwood because I take my dog there often but dog parks aren't exactly high priority while there are open crypts and stuff in the Oakwood Cemetery.

Annual membership is $40, day pass is $5. I think there's a month option too. We just did the annual since we're walking distance from it. It's right down the street from the Harris Teeter on the corner of Maynard and Harrison. They do a great job of maintaining it and it has flood lights so it's open until 10pm. The only stupid thing is you can't pick up the day pass at the park. You have to go to the community center in downtown Cary or at Bond Lake. I don't know why they don't sell the passes at the skate park office next to the dog park.

Anyway be sure to bring receipts from your vet showing your dog is current on vaccinations or they won't sell you the pass. Some people get pissy about that but it's nice knowing the dogs in the park are definitely vaccinated.

Like I said, that fee is paying for better maintenance and better supervision of the park. I scoffed at the idea at first as well, but you can see a marked difference between the park in Cary and at least the one at Millbrook. The one time I went to the Millbrook Park there was an aggressive dog terrorizing other dogs and other owners not picking up after their dogs, etc. Maybe it was a bad day but I have heard others have similar complaints about the park. I've never seen these sorts of issues at the Cary park. Does making the owners pay for park usage mean they unconsciously put more value to the park and treat it better? Possibly but my theory is since Cary regularly sends park employees to monitor the park and your membership gets revoked for breaking the rules, people are more mindful because they don't want to lose rights to the park after paying for them.

carolina pines has yet to be bad enough for me to ever consider paying for a dog park

when i used to go to millbrook, there were definitely some more aggressive dogs that i didn't care for...but the other people (not the aggressive dogs' owners) were pretty good about telling those people to reign in their dogs or GTFO (which, of course, the shitty dog owners didn't like, but what were they going to do about it?)

i did once notice someone drop off their dog...the second time they did it, i called animal control and they came to pick up the dog

*shrug*

of course you did

(not that this excuses their behavior, but still seems like a thing to do)

doesn't keep me up at night...i'm not the one who talked to them about it, but one of the regulars did

they had their chance not to be dickbags and they made their choice...i get a real sense of satisfaction out of my choice, actually

I think you did the right thing. That sort of thing is completely unacceptable and hopefully they got some pet owner education when they picked up their dog from the pound (or it was adopted to a more responsible person).
