I feel stupid responding to an email with "youre welcome"

but then again I feel rude if I don't

is there like a protocol for this or some shit?

In my office, it's generally accepted to not waste peoples time. This includes clouding up an inbox with silly thank you notes

I usually go for the thank you infinite loop.

I said thank you today in an email to the new girl. She responded with "np". Kind of threw me for a loop

I don't respond to such e-mails.

I'd view that as the equivalent of sending a thank you card to someone who sent you a happy birthday card. Its just not the right proportional response.

lol, lets spark it up

also lets split this into three groups

A)co-workers

B)people outside the company

C) people outside the company who give money to your company

a - rarely, they know whats up

b - no

c - sometimes? this is my main grey area

My general rule is if the other person initiated the exchange I would respond, but if they were thanking me in response to something I initiatÉd I may not.

This is almost as difficult as the conundrum of Facebook Happy Birthday posts and associated response etiquette.

For the most part I don't even respond with "thank you"s to e-mails.

If I'm e-mailing the warehouse or a credit manager or someone else that I'm asking them to do an every day task I get my answer from them and I go about my day. However if I'm asking someone to go farther than normal I will respond with a "thank you very much!!"

My auto response to those is generally (from external customers)

"Please let us know if we can assist you further or if you have any other concerns or issues"

To coworkers it just depends on on their attitude and personality, but mostly whether I will need their help again in the near future.

I hate it when people respond with Thank you to e-mails for the most part...cause I see I have an e-mail and I open it to read "Thank you"

So I have never said "you're welcome" because if I don't wanna read thank you I'm sure other people don't wanna read you're welcome.

Although I have been known to respond with "anytime, I don't mind helping you out!"

exactly, my emails are usually good news so I like getting them, a "thank you" or "you're welcome" email is a disappointment

I personally wrote a letter to Hallmark that they are missing out on a huge opportunity by not marketing "You're Welcome" Cards. You could at least expect equal sales to the "Thank You" cards and even offer two-for-one specials where you include the "You're Welcome" card within the letter to the person you're thanking so they can return receipt.

This and six-minute abs. Sitting on a Goldmine. Sitting on a FREAKING Goldmine.

and by the way - YOU'RE WELCOME Hallmark.
