I saw people go from hating Obama to wanting to kiss him within 10 minutes. Huge credit boost, concrete reason to leave afghanistan and call the war successful, takes peoples minds off the economy, basically overshadows the whole birthed arguement etc. etc. etc.

I find it funny how many posters on here don't believe in religion b/c of lack of evidence, but this comes out and they jump all over it. People create their own reality and believe what they want to be true....

That wouldn't work, because his supporters would come out and say "the neutered US didn't do shit; our great leader died a natural death in 20XX".

The only case would be he was in custody, but if you think about it, even that can't be the case, because if they really did catch him, they would love to put him on trial and punish him... the US public would love that.

I do wish he had been caught alive. I know it is easy as an observer to say this, but why was he shot if he was unarmed? I guess it was dark and the soldiers shot him because in such a critical and fast-paced situation nothing is clear.

I am probably the most skeptical person when it comes to the news. I try and listen to a wide range of new stations (minus fox lulz) but there is no logical reason for them to lie about killing him unless he either died a long time ago or we captured him alive. The best explanation i can think of (assuming we didn't kill him) is that we went into that compound and found out that he had been dead for a while but ^ answered that better than i did.

^I Heard on NPR yesterday that he was shot reaching for a gun, but i heard today on NPR that he was "unarmed but resisted" not sure why they declarified

Who is more of an idiot, a hair-brained conspiracy theorist or the compliant civilian that never asks questions? As is the case with most things in life, the truth likely lies somewhere in between. I have no clue what actually happened in the last 10 years, but I know what I've been told and I know I don't believe a lot of it. Maybe we just killed OBL and buried him at sea or maybe his whole character was a fabrication from the start as a means to many ends.

The point is, all one can is do his own research to arrive at his own conclusions. History holds countless examples of governmental cover-up and exploitation, with little reason to believe these practices have come to an end. Regardless of whether a person's personal theory makes any sense to you, the only idiot in the situation is the one with no basis for his opinion.

Good thread. I think it's always good to question as much as possible. All we know is that the US believed that the announcement of OBL's death would be mostly accepted. We don't know why. It could be for several reasons, including that we were told the truth.
