They lock threads for simply disagreeing. OmarBadu locked a thread in the Lounge because he thought there was one in chit chat that sufficed. There's a very obvious and established line between Lounge and Chit Chat. Lounge for topics warranting serious discussion or observation and chit chat is everything else.

Or if you want a thread for iPad 2, you can't... because the mod wants you to land it in the 50+ pages that already exists for the original iPad. Taking this up with the Mod is useless, as they tend to just "lock" or "trash" your threads more often if you say anything regardless of the merit of the argument.

Then again, I've seen all sorts of abuse go on in here with no action or too much action. Maybe I'm the one splitting hairs here.

no one is going to read back through a 100 page thread for a product that has gone through multiple versions to find something someone mentioned. the opposite is too many threads, but there is a common sense middle ground that this mod is lacking.

I don't think it's splitting hairs to point out that two threads of similar subject can exist peacefully when one is in Chit Chat and one in the Lounge. Isn't the whole damn point of the Lounge to get more serious feedback with less of the nonsense in Chit Chat?

Granted I don't know what the thread in question was.

i typically lock things when a user hasn't bothered to search to bttt a more relevant topic but perhaps there is one or two things in the thread that are worth keeping - if we were able to merge threads a lot less of them would be locked in the lounge

my argument is that if all of the information is in one place than it's easier to search for and find - i think this really only holds true for threads that are a few pages or less though - once a thread becomes 10s or 100s of pages it's easier for sub topics to be put into sub threads (partially due to tww's lack of searching in a thread)

it has nothing to do with space
