I figured that TWW was the best place to ask for this stuff.

Anyone have any free streams of the Checkers game tonight?

Its more the level of competition than the sport. I wouldn't root for a NBDL team either.

eh, you'd be surprised. it's much better competition than the checkers of old. there were hurricanes playing all throughout the season in charlotte and several of the guys on this team will probably be in Raleigh at the start of next season.

yeah dude i really don't get what you are talking about as far as competition level, do you feel the same way about watching AAA ball?

i think im going to the game friday. anyone else going?

[Edited on May 10, 2011 at 12:34 PM. Reason : few players from the DL ever make it to the NBA right? well almost all NHL players start in the AHL]

I'm saying from a fan's perspective, its hard to care about wins and losses when the organization's man focus is just getting these guys ready for the big league club.

Hard to be a fan of a team who's best players are constantly leaving for greener pastures.

I think that's definitely true. I'm a big fan just because they are Carolina's farm team; before this season I would go to Checkers games but couldn't tell you how they were doing overall and didn't really care.

It's hard to form an allegiance to farm teams unless it's affiliated with a pro team you like, especially in baseball where affiliation changes every few years. I mean, it's great to see all the prospects coming through Kinston or Winston-Salem, but unless you're just a massive stat head, you know that eventually they'll all play for a team you might not like, or their success might be counter to a team you do like. That was especially true when I lived in Salem and they switched to the Red Sox. Suddenly I didn't want the players to be quite as good because it would mean Boston would stay hot in the AL East.

It's good to keep consistency in minor league affiliation and even better to keep teams close to home and cultivate a fan base, like the 'Canes have done. The Nationals have done this in NoVa and Maryland, too, keeping their Class A teams in Woodbridge and Hagerstown.

Yeah, having the Knights with the White Sox and the Bulls with the Rays makes it hard to care about those teams if you don't follow the major league team.

Only time its really cool are when injured stars are making rehab appearances like Peavy, Schilling, Big Hurt, etc.

i laugh at the thought of Big Hurt rehab appearance.

but yeah seeing him was great. Big Hurt Baseball was ahead of its time.

In the meantime, the Checkers are fun to follow because our NHL team is playing on the golf course right now and has been since mid-April.

Go Checkers! (Might even get me a jersey)

lol i went and it was damn ugly. 4 goals on 9 shots in the first period. Murphy had terrible lateral movement and Binghampton really exposed it with some great cross cut passing. They're a fast team too. But shit, had the goaltenders not shit the bed so early we would have won that game. Not going tonight, i think i'm bad luck.
