Okay, so I have decided that I need new sheets/pillow cases/etc. The ones I have are nice and all, but they are old and starting to wear out a bit. Hopefully someone here will know where I should be looking for reasonably priced bedding (or places that do a lot of sales).

Secondly, I am pretty much terrible at really matching colors. I can dress myself and look respectable, but when it comes to home furnishing, I have trouble visualizing what something is going to look like. So any insight as to what color combinations are commonly considered to not look like total shit would be greatly appreciated as well. I'm not super particular about colors aside from the fact that I am not going to be too keen on putting pastels in my bedroom.

I'm currently in an apartment, so the walls/carpet are pretty much bland as fuck. Off-white carpet and white walls. Working on getting some paintings to put up to give the joint a little color. Most of what I am looking at has a lot of blue and red in it. My desk is wood grain and black. Other than that not a lot to work off of, so it's kind of a clean slate.

just go to target.com or kohls.com or bedbathandbeyond.com and look at their bedding sets. You can pretty much buy a "bed in a bag" nowadays which has everything you need for pretty cheap

Kohls is the only place that I have found reasonably priced 600+tc sheet sets for a queen bed.

http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/bedandbath/sheets/luxury/PRD~c17238/Chaps+Home+Chadwick+700Thread+Count+Sheet+Set.jsp#

The set there is only $99 for a flat, fitted, and cases. I just need to figure out colors, I suppose, since I am not finding anything better anywhere else including overstock.

whatever you do, do not get one of those white comforters that you put a duvet cover on. it is the most annoying motherfucker i've ever fucked with. like trying to put your comforter in a big flimsy envelope. complete bullshit.

I am kind of working in that direction.

Right now I am thinking "Cranberry" sheets and a white down alternative comforter to start. Good contrast and will go decently well with the art I am probably going to end up with on the walls. Still hate the carpet, but not much I can do there.

This shit is getting expensive, but hell, this is where I am gonna sleep, so might as well drop a little on it, right?

^ Yeah I'm not really planning to do the whole Duvet cover thing. I'm a simple man. i just want my shit to look good.

I checked overstock. Pretty much everything was more expensive than I have found elsewhere and their color selection is crap.

JC Pennys actually has some really nice sheets for cheap. I was looking for some deep pocket sheets for our bed because it is a double sided pillow top and found several sets that look and fit great.

a comforter is typically something with a pattern or whatever already on it, so you're not adding a cover to it. duvet is what NRR described as a comforter thing you put a cover over.

cranberry/burgundy sounds like an old lady to me. just my opinion.

Duvet covers are to prevent cover yellowing or staining of white comforters (duvets).

cheaper high TC sheets can be had at costco if you have a membership

if you're doing a synthetic duvet, then i guess you're ok. but white is still going to dirty

real duvets are typically dry clean only, so a cover, even a white one is a VERY GOOD IDEA

egyeyes will back me up on this one, lol, but i REALLY love westelm for bedding. http://www.westelm.com/

but you can find great deals at TJ max, etc...and even JC penny/macys/belk/etc

as far as color...i personally am not 100% into the cranberry idea. if you definitely wanna do colored sheets and a white comforter, i think the sheet color should be like, sage green or maybe a grey blue. potentially a navy.

i think the better way to add color is to do simple sheets (like white...or a neutral color) and a duvet. the duvet can still be simple. you could do a champagne duvet with a cranberry throw at the foot of your bed and white sheets that would be nice. or a navy duvet and grey or white sheets.

i don't know...this is all just my opinion obviously! i'm just not a giant fan of dark/bright colored sheets. i prefer lighter or natural or at least muted tones of sheet and the color coming from a throw/duvet/throw pillows. and it doesn't have to be SUPER COLOR. it can still be something simple. i have this:

with a cranberry throw (with tassels) folded on the foot of my bed.

ALSO, for pricing, 600 thread ct sheets rule and all, but have you looked at alternative fibers?! some of the bamboo and modal and other things besides cotton (but that feel like cotton - they aren't as heavy or clothy/tshirty as jersey) sheets are JUST AS SOFT and not nearly as pricey. and also come in colors. just an fyi!

I ended up ordering an Sage 800tc bamboo 4 pc. set from Amazon that had good reviews. Got the set for $78 (yay amazon gift cards). Only current concern is whether the 20x30 pillowcases will work with my pillows. They will be close and should work for the short term at least. Also, I can go back and buy just cases, if I need to, later.

Decided on the sage as I have come to feel like my room is too a little dark as it is, so dark sheets won't so much to help. I'll wait to get the sheets before i worry about choosing other colors, i suppose.

Sears- they were having a sale and I got their "bed in a bag" set for about $80-90 for an anniversary present. It came with dust ruffle, 2 pillowcases, fitted sheet, regular sheet, comforter and bedspread in a green/blue stripe idea. I like the comforter and boy uses the bedspread.

I'm still obsessed with this print:

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=16534&CategoryID=7502&LinkType=#fn=sp%3D3%26spc%3D312

It's not even that super nice or anything, but it gets used in a lot of movies and TV shows. So every time I forget about it, it just pops up on my TV screen, and I fall in love again.

I currently have beige carpet and white walls as well.

My sheets are a sage green color most of the time. I also have a set of navy, light blue, and white striped sheets, a warm tan and white speckled set, and a couple others usually sage greenish.
I bought some dark green ones . . NEVER AGAIN. Every single hair showed up on it cat hair, my hair . . they are now dog sheets

Not sure I'm digging the cranberry color either . . but honestly go with what YOU like.

I should read, sorry.

the sheet sets i have are white, green (one really light, the other is light but almost medium), light blue, darker green (jersey), & brown (flannel). the jersey & flannel sets only get used when it's cold.

The ones I got were deep pocket sheets. Now the wait to get them and see if they are as awesome as i want them to be.

Also, I am waiting to get them to see what the exact color is to work on getting a appropriately matching comforter. That will be a month or two down the road, though.

i'm super hot natured. i wake up sweating most nights. i keep it cold as shit in my house.

my husband is very cold natured though & doesn't like slick/hard finish sheets in the winter (bc they're cold when you get in bed). gotta compromise when you get married.

the flannel sheets were suuupppeerrrr cheap & i think have been used once.

Agreed! I absolutely HATE jersey knit sheets. I had them for my twin bed in Tucker Hall at State, and I couldn't stand waking up in sweat and sticking to the sheets. I love my regular sheets now. Nice and cool when you're not laying on them. :-)

If you have already purchased a comforter, just disregard. My fav bedding places are always to check out homegoods first. I've never found good bedding so cheap. Of course, it's hit or miss and you actually have to go there to shop, but besides that, I've found some really nice stuff there.

If it's online, I'd go for West Elm, Dwell Studio or Serena & Lily. Probably with your sage sheets, I'd go with something like http://www.westelm.com/products/tailored-stripe-coverlet-and-sham-b498/?pkey=cquilts-blankets

You will LOVE the bamboo sheets!! We registered for four sets when we got married just on a whim. Got two and wish we had gone back and bought more. They are so amazingly soft yet have a great sheen to them.

Ended up with a nice brown/tan/chocolate comforter set that goes really nicely with the sage sheets.

I suppose I should get pillows to go in these shams at some point, but for now, I'm very happy.
