contrary to what the thread title meant to imply, they apparently removed the death penalty portion of the bill. this sounds like a pretty bad deal all around, but now you're just attention whoring

Contrary to whatever the fuck Fry's agenda is, pointing out the insanity of an anti-homosexual bill is not attention whoring. That there even existed a capital punishment clause in the first place is cause for alarm.

Uganda has had some really fucked up ideas about homosexuality for some time.

It's entirely possible that they would. Clearly there is something more or less uniquely "Ugandan" about their response to homosexuality. There are a great many other countries who believe in the same "fairy in the sky" and don't act this weird.

There is clearly a religious element to it, but there are other factors looming large here -- aversion to western culture (which is perceived as the source of homosexuality), the political usefulness of being able to call an opponent gay as an easy excuse to kill him, and so forth. And generally speaking I'm not sure that there's a place on the entire African continent that's tolerant of homosexuality, which to me suggests a cultural strain that is present regardless of the local religion.

Do you need the NT passages condemning homosexuality to feel better?

If you'd like to list them your welcome to. But you will not find a NT reference to killing homosexuals for indecency in the NT.

You will find their way being condemned but the command to stone and kill, is within the Law of Moses because it refers directly to a practice that was to be in place for the assembly of the Tribe of Israel.

Many of the letters of Paul condemn homosexuality as it was prevalent within ancient pagan religions of the time.

Thanks for showing me that website though. I find it's ignorant commentary rather amusing.

I like how it uses a "convenient" and rough translation of the Bible. And when it makes references it often often pretends words have the same meaning. Here is an example:

"Rev 22:16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. "

Of which they say

Quote :
"This verse refers to Jesus as the "bright and morning star", as is Lucifer in Isaiah 14:12. So is Jesus Lucifer? "

However, the verse calls Lucifer (translated Light Bearer or Shining One) now this is often translated to star of the morning due to the soon. However, let's look at both the verse and Strong's Concordance for the Hebrew definition.

"How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!"

So the root word of Shining One here is halal under Strong's 1984:

"make boast self, celebrate, commend, deal, make, foolish glory, give light, be make,

A primitive root; to be clear (orig. Of sound, but usually of color); to shine; hence, to make a show, to boast; and thus to be (clamorously) foolish; to rave; causatively, to celebrate; also to stultify -- (make) boast (self), celebrate, commend, (deal, make), fool(- ish, -ly), glory, give (light), be (make, feign self) mad (against), give in marriage, (sing, be worthy of) praise, rage, renowned, shine."

Now let's look at the translation for the Revelation Morning Star. Within the Greek the star is merely a reference to the celestial stars but the bright is defined as "lampros:"
bright (3), clear (1), fine (2), gorgeous (1), shining (1), splendid (1). A much more fitting title for the Lord don't you think?

But no wonder you have a problem with the Bible Stu. You go to websites of people with no understanding. Normally, if you read the concordance it's much easier to understand these translation discrepancies.

And what does that have to do with anything? Did I ever claim that the NT said stone homosexuals? Did I ever claim that that website was based off your niche translation interpretation? I remain unconvinced by your Bible at any rate. You could teach me Greek, give me the original transcripts and I still wouldn't believe the words.

My "translation interpretation" as you call is not based off a niche. It's based off of a well excepted scholarly reference as to what the words mean in Greek in Hebrew. Much like connotation in the English there is connotation in Greek and Hebrew as well. Strong is recognized by both saints and secular sources as the go to source for interpretation. You'll have to forgive me if I use his very expansive study to explain the fallacious arguments used on that website.

I'm not really sure what your upset about.

I said:

Quote :
"Are you trying to say that In Uganda the follow the Law of Moses for people INSIDE the congregation of Israel?"

When I was addressing the quote of Leviticus.

Then you say:

Quote :
"Do you need the NT passages condemning homosexuality to feel better?"

Then I respond:

Quote :
"You will find their way being condemned but the command to stone and kill, is within the Law of Moses because it refers directly to a practice that was to be in place for the assembly of the Tribe of Israel. "

Which I'm fairly certain agrees with what you said in your prior statement about homosexuality being condemned. Which it is. I was just trying to explain the difference between a reference from the law of Moses within the OT and the New Covenant in the NT.

And I just enjoyed solving the issue the skeptics put forth on their websites because I also remembered in Dogma when Loki says to Bartleby that he sounds like "The Morning Star." Just never took the time to look in Strong's to explain it. But thanks to your website Stu I did.

What we should do, is you should find something that looks a lot like a giant inconsistency within the Bible, then I will explain it using my understanding from the Holy Spirit and Strong's concordance.
That would probably be worthwhile for everyone on the forum. If any wants to try and find an inconsistency I'd be happy to explain it, you can even use Stu's website link.I will be out of town for a week though, so it may take me a while to respond.

"Where is the wise? where scribe? where disputer of this world? has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

For since, in the wisdom of God, the world by wisdom has not known God, God has been pleased by the foolishness of the preaching to save those that believe.

Since Jews indeed ask for signs, and Greeks seek wisdom;

but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews an offence, and to nations foolishness;

but to those that are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ God's power and God's wisdom.

Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men."

There is a difference between the wisdom of God and the wisdom of the world. Do not confuse the two. For who can have two masters?

I'd ask you to prove that the wisdom of God even exists, but then you'd get bored and complain that proving things is so tedious.
