When my dad did work in Africa(Nigeria mostly) he said they would eat the bone and all. That used to gross me out when he would come home and tell us how people ate all over the world.

Yep, that shit is revolting. I, too, will damn near gag when I accidentally bite down on any sort of gristle, so much so that I tend to cut chicken into fairly small pieces for the sake of not getting any gristle.

My grandma is the one who told me to eat that as a little kid, too. I think that is straight up depression style tactics. She always does stuff like that. She also collects creamers, ketchup/mustard/mayonaise packets, napkins, plastic ware at restaurants. Funny how I have never been embarrassed by that.
