just the front of their shirt in

if you have a gut (hello America) and you're wearing a belt with a metal clasp, but your shirt isn't fully tucked in (hello again America) when you bend forward your gut touches the metal, which is uncomfortable and disorienting.

tuck the front = problem solved.

professional in the front, casual in the back

It's really because your belly pushes your pants down so your butt shows so it's better to have a shirt tail covering it.

Best fashion advice I ever got:

Clothes don't make you look fat - fat makes you look fat.

if you have a gut (hello America) and your shirt IS fully tucked in, when you bend forward your gut must be overcome buy a greater arc along your backside and so your shirt gets untucked.

tuck the front = remnants of laziness.

Maybe it's just me but if you had your shirt originally tucked in all around and bent down to pick something up you have a good chance of pulling the shirt out from the back and sides (lift with the legs, not your back creedo).

Alternately if you have a loose shirt hanging like a polo outside cargo pants and a guy goes to take a leak or blowjob without peeking through the zipper portal it will have been deemed he accidentally had some shirt tail ingress during the transaction.

The only people I've seen do this have gaudy belt buckles.

I am a pretty big guy, but it's extremely rare to have this "overlap metal touching" you're referring to. That only happens if you have a lot of equipment in your cargo pants (like when I'm running network cable) or something.

I dunno if anyone else has noticed this, but there's a cut in the trunk at the base of the Ralph Lauren polo shirts where the trunk length at the front and the trunk length at the back have about a 2-4 inch difference in length. The rear portion is cut longer for this particular purpose of maintaining the tuck when you lean over.

The front tucked Ralph Lauren polo (common sight) accentuates the sloven appearance of this look as the compensatory fabric in the back only adds to the untucked length.

Therefore the mid-Atlantic standard uniform - sperry topsiders, jeans, polo, and a north face denali (seasonal) - is never properly worn

I guess I mostly noticed it in RLP because I mostly just buy my shirts in bulk from Pakistan.

I am actually not kidding. I got a load of Pakistani polos for 6 bucks a shirt and everyone always wants to know where I got 'em. I think that's the only way to do business.

Depending on who's running the factory will depend on the cut you get. A large is not always a large, for instance, even when the branding is stamped on it after it's imported.

Getting fat has all kinds of disadvantages when it comes to pants.

Once your gut gets bigger than your ass it actually pushes them down instead of holding them up.

Then the belt buckle digs in to your stomach when driving.

Then if you have to fucking pick something up of the floor you gotta retuck your shirt cuz its all fucked up.

I do it on t-shirts... But it's actually cause I'm skinny and my shirts (even smalls) can still too be too big

I blame that on fatties screwing with the general clothing sizes tho. I've had to start buying a hell of a lot more xtra smalls because Big America is skewing larger and larger and messing with the "standard" sizes.

It's starting to feel that way.

But I'll take it over the alternative of being too big for my britches.
