"This is the dramatic moment armed police stepped in to neutralise a tiger who had escaped from his enclosure at a packed Chinese zoo.

Thankfully for the visitors to Chengdu Zoo in Sichuan Province, China, however, the tiger in question was a person in a fluffy costume who was helping bosses plan for a real big cat escape.

The willing human tiger took part in a well-executed drill at the popular zoo so staff knew what to do should a dangerous tiger escape from its enclosure."

Come and get me: Staff were keen to show visitors they mean business if a tiger does happen to escape in the zoo

Cornered: Armed staff defeat the tiger-costumed man in a successful rehearsal for a real tiger escape

I read a book, Lost on Planet China by J. Maarten Troost, where I believe he visits this zoo or one like it, anyway. He talks about how tourists (mostly Chinese) could pay money for a live chicken tied by its feet to a stick in a fashion similar to a fishing pole, which they could then dangle over tiger enclosures. He said a lot of the tourists kept pulling the chicken back at the last second, only to be mangled more slowly. He ended up buying one for himself. "Why did I do this? I did it for the chicken."

Fun fact. Well, a fact, anyway. Fuck you.

A friend just moved back from Beijing and was telling me about a zoo in northern China where you could buy a cow or goat and it would be loaded onto the back of a truck. Your driver would follow this truck and when it neared the predators they would jerk the wheel and dump the animal in front of them. You get to sit in your car and watch it get demolished.

Also, the gun appears to be a Type 79.
