Townies is more of a term used in big cities, especially up North.

Not only do most of us live in the South, not a ton of us are from big cities.

According to my life experiences (watching movies, of course), townies are the people who live in a college town or resort town but don't have the means to go to a college or resort. It often involves waiting on or working for the kids (pricks) who do have the means.

Staying in Chapel Hill or something after you graduate doesn't make you a townie. I mean, come on, that's like Troy Perkins, Troy's Friend #1, and Troy's Friend #2 trying to call themselves goonies! Speaking of Troy, he, uh, hasn't aged gracefully:
