1) perhaps the baby is sleeping and it looks like the sun may be coming in at an angle, so one might deduce that she's shading the child to help it sleep

2) if those children were being loud and obnoxious you'd be annoyed to.

so really, great thread

so the only way for kids to behave is to make them completely withdrawn and cut off from their environment... cool theory bro

It's a kid playing video games and a kid napping under a blanket.

There's no issue here at all. And until you have kids of your own, it's not your place to judge. They're not annoying anybody, I can think of literally 1000 different ways to be a worse parent than this.

Depends on where the picture was taken...

I don't think there's anything wrong with the jacket over the stroller if the kid is taking a nap.

& handheld games can have their time and place.

I have a question about something I saw a parent say on FB

She wrote that she would put her young child into a cold shower as punishment, then later threaten him with it.

IMO, that's abuse. Physically and emotionally. Thoughts?

according to everyone in here, you are doing the kid a favor and should get a Parent of the Year award

Some of us care about the future of kids in America... and not just "I hope I dont get annoyed at any cost". In fact, I believe the children are our are future and we should teach them well and let them lead the way.

raising children to be successful members of society and raising them to not be annoying shits in public are not mutually exclusive

all i'm saying is they aren't running around screaming like a couple of tards, which is becoming quite rare

You can't educate your kids 24 hours a day.

I see a kid that knows how to self soothe and nap anywhere. Even if the kid is awake, he or she probably has the jacket pulled over them so that they can go to sleep without the sun in their face. And I see another kid who knows how to entertain himself instead of running around and being a little shit when he's out in public just sitting around.

its more I dont have children because I would probably do something like this at this point.. thus not ready for kids.

When I get to the point that I read Chaucer to my kids in public then I will be ready to breed.

I think a lot of parents in the back of their mind are thinking the things that Louis CK says out loud in his stand up. I <3 him.

I love this article:

Quote :
"Permissive parents: Curb your brats

If you're the kind of parent who allows your 5-year-old to run rampant in public places like restaurants, I have what could be some rather disturbing news for you.

I do not love your child.

The rest of the country does not love your child either.

And the reason why we're staring at you every other bite is not because we're acknowledging some sort of mutual understanding that kids will be kids but rather we want to kill you for letting your brat ruin our dinner.

Or our plane ride.

Or trip to the grocery store.

Or the other adult-oriented establishments you've unilaterally decided will serve as an extension of your toddler's playpen because you lack the fortitude to properly discipline them, in public and at home.

......

I think the headphones are a nice touch. The music on those dang games is annoying.

Anyway, this is why you teach your children to read young. That way you can just tell them to STFU and read their book, and if anybody's got a problem with it, be like, "What?!?!? He's reading!!!"

I was having lunch with a friend a couple of weeks ago and a young couple came in with their daughter. She immediately sat down and watched a movie on her ipad while her parents talked. The owner of the restaurant even came over to say hi to them and the ipad viewing continued during that conversation as well.

My friend remarked that they were breeding incredibly awkward social behavior for years to come with that. I agreed completely.

^^ i was thinking the other day how parents are like, thank god for tvs in cars and video games and shit these days. my parents were able to survive just fine without having that stuff and did road trips with us.

granted, i'd like to think i won't have a DVD player in my mini van IF i ever have kids, but i probably will

I don't see why people feel the need to go around judging everyone else, especially based on one time interactions like that. Live and let live.

Yeah I was loving that article too. Last weekend David and I went to The Pig for lunch and there were asshole kids with their shitstain parents ruining the entire restaurant while we were there. Basically the parents completely ignored their children, blabbing on about whatever, while their kids ran amok and spread their greasy hands all over every surface of the restaurant. The table next to us told us the kids were even worse when the group first arrived and one table left the restaurant because of them. Honestly the kids were a hazard to the employees of the restaurant as they kept getting underfoot and if I were the manager I'd have told the parents to get their kids under control. They seemed like the sort of parents who would have thrown a shit fit if their kid had tripped an employee and ended up with hot food spilled on them
