^Must have been all that bad parenting.

Bottom line. Get multiple teens together in a car and they do stupid and dangerous things to show off in front of their peers. "Watch this."

I'm guessing that it's the reasoning behind the laws in some states where a driver under a certain age isn't allowed to have more than one passenger. Either that or they are just trying to reduce the number of people injured when teens have accidents.

Truth. With all the stupid shit I did as a high school kid, I should probably not be alive now. People who don't seem to get this were probably stay-at-home nerds in high school.

I had a four cylinder jeep.

My father explained to me that it rolled over easily, and that if I wrecked it would have to start riding the bus to school again..forever, liability only policy.

I did not drive like a dumbass in High School.

No I would not get my kid a Challenger, that begs for them to do stupid shit.

I also had a 4 cylinder jeep, went 80 tops. That is still fast enough to kill someone.

NC should have similar laws limiting the amount of passengers in the cars of people under 18.

I had an '82 plymouth reliant K.

it took about 10 minutes to warm up before you could put it in drive without killing the engine, and it would sputter for a few minutes after you killed the ignition.

shenanigans were physically impossible in this vehicle.

probably saved my life based on the shit i got into when i was in other people's cars.

HOW ABOUT WE DON'T JUST HAND LICENSES OUT LIKE FUCKING HALLOWEEN CANDY

HOW ABOUT WE TAKE THEM AWAY WHEN YOU DO STUPID SHIT

I even remember thinking as a kid that, as much as I wanted it, it was idiotic to license all these 17-year-old HS kids. And sure enough a handful of them eliminated themselves from the gene pool. Some people just wait a little while longer to do so, and take innocent people with them.

That's probably how it should be. I don't understand parents who give their kids sports cars.

Must have been an early graduation present, as I think I heard the news report that their graduation was the NEXT day.

I just don't get what would make a person drive 129 MPH with your friends. Yes, peer pressure, but damnnnn. I never drove crazy in HS or did stuff I wasn't supposed to. Sooo sad to hear ALL the car accidents from just Wake & Johnston Co. lately. It seems like EVERY day I watch the news, they are saying there's some teen killed in a car wreck from Smithfield, Clayton, Wilson, Four Oaks, etc.

I had a 1987 Plymouth Horizon, 4 cyl.

I got more tickets in that vehicle than any other vehicle I have owned since.

New drivers are going to speed, regardless of what kind of vehicle they are in.

I had a similar situation. 1980 Mazda B-2000 truck that also had to warm up for 10 minutes before you could drive it. Had a nasty oil leak that would bellow black smoke when you turned it off. I don't believe I ever got it above 70 on the highway and that was downhill...if you started up a hill, even at full speed, it would start losing speed quickly. Total piece of shit truck, it broke down at least twice a month.

I rocked that 4 cylinder volvo station wagon

Sucker was a TANK. All iron engine block, all metal body. You could probably hit a bear with it and still drive it home. Burned oil and tranny fluid just slightly slower than it burned gas

I had an 89 toyota tercel. Thing started shaking if i got it up past 70. It too would continue running after turning it off. (it usually went on for 30ish seconds)... one time it happened when i ran home for lunch and i figured it would just turn off and didn't think twice about it. well i came back outside and it was still chugging and the interior cabin was on fire (between the two front seats, under the emergency brake.)

i took the garden hose to it, put it out, turned it back on, and drove back to school for weightlifting class.

I didn't get my license until 2 months before high school ended and even then I didn't get my first car till second semester of freshman year. Although it was a sports car, but the eclipse wasn't a fast car and a pos fwd at that.

Although, I got my motorcycle about the same time as the car and basically have driven about the same amount of miles in my first 5 years of driving on two wheels. Just this past year I've ridden 15k and I only take leisure trips.

Since I've been doing track days, I leave all the speed demon and stupid shit off public roads. We need to support racing and proper vehicle handling in safe environments such as race tracks. There's that american believe that we are all good drivers... americans are sadly mistaken when they get their first glimpse after the first turn on the track.

Your high school gpa don't mean jack shit in NC. I too went to high school in this state. I know for a fact that white kids and some certain black kids get preferential treatment and grades they shouldn't. This kid was a certified dumbass. I had a lt1 camaro. I didn't wrap it around a tree and my gpa damn sure wasn't a 4.0.

While we're on GPA's my class valedictorian had a 4.5 or some crazy weighted gpa. His college GPA (same school and major) is lower than mine. End of discussion

^ also to note, book smarts doesn't equal street smarts. It's one thing to know physics, but to feel it and control it is another issue. I know plenty of book smart people who think they know how to drive and get egg on their face (top gear style) when they can't handle a simple curve.

HS is incredibly easy. You really have to try to get a shitty gpa. I'm not a model student, skipped class, did my homework 5 mins before class and didnt give a shit about anything, but my gpa was a 4.2. I'm sure its 2x easier now days with the standards lowered.

idk, when my sister was first driving she pulled out in front of someone with her underpowered Ford Taurus - if she had a quicker car maybe she wouldn't have totaled it

^and then wheel spun the shit out of it, do a 270 and it would have been a head on... she'd be dead.

we need kids to learn better car control and gain more experience in traffic situations with simulators or something. At least devote a whole summer program for kids to learn how to do a ebrake 180 maneuver in case they ever need to make a quick turn around and run from raptors...

I don't get how people can wreck a car. Its like walking, this should be second nature. Up the driving age to 21 and down the drinking age to 16. Problem solved.

^Its not about the car. You gotta use "good parenting" and teach your kids to respect the car. A prius will kill em just as fast as a challenger. My whole point in making this thread is that no parent should buy a teenager a muscle car and not expect them to go apeshit on the gas.

they have some allotted for Cary people too.

and for some reason they MUST drive 10mph under the fucking speed limit on the interstate in the left hand lane AND be oblivious to everything going on around them.

and they must have an Obama sticker. (I've yet to see a prius without one, other than at the dealership).

My first car was an $800 88 Oldsmobile Cutlass Sierra. The AC didnt work, the radio didnt work, it was slow, but it was a tank. It was a certified POS but I fucking loved that car, I may buy another one just for shits n giggles. My parents couldnt afford, but also had the sense enough not to get a souped up muscle car for a 16 year old who just learned to drive.
