Well I was going to just go to my old doctor but apparently it now takes forever to get an appointment Can anyone recommend a good one in Raleigh or Cary?

I'll do it. My rates scale based on level of attractiveness.

You should have no issues.

I know this isn't chit chat but I wanted to at least get one post in so maybe you'd get some responses.

My, what large small hands you have, grandma ob-gyn.

The better to... probe you with, my dear?

I love my practice. I've seen all of the docs now (standard with an Ob practice this big when pregnant) and there isn't a single one that I don't like. All have been great in answering my questions, and I love all the nurses. I would be comfortable with any one delivering our baby, and before this was always pleased with the care i got on the gyno side. Mid-Carolina OBGYN.

I love Capital Area and have used them for the past 4 years. Dr. Richardson delivered both of my babies. I even drove an hour and half to Capital Area's Cary office during the second half of my pregnancy because we moved to Greenville. After my postpartum check up in a few weeks, I'm going to have to tell them goodbye and look for a local OB/GYN.

Yeah Dr. Barrett was always good to me but if I can get an appointment faster somewhere else I may do that.

i use dr. maddison at mid-carolina (at Rex). may be quicker for a new patient to get an appointment, as it usually takes 2 or 3 months for me to get one so i have to make sure i call in advance.

I would highly suggest Dr. Hardison over in Chapel Hill, especially if you have a condition that might at some point require surgery. I found him when the surgeon over at UNC started being a bastard, but he does regular gyno stuff too (had to have an exam before surgery, it was the fourth time I was poked and prodded in that area within several months and he was good at it so no probs there).

I would go back to him, but if you go more than 3 years between visits his office will charge you for a new patient exam and I didn't feel like paying for that when I could go to student health.

Dr. Benavides
but I also see Dr. Williams. I wasn't as weirded out that he was a dude as I was afraid I might be, he is very quick and to the point. In and out.
no pun intended.

So for those of you in the baby making business, does your ob take a more natural approach to birth or are they totally down with epidurals/pitocin/etc?

Rex in general, and I'm sure many of the practices in their women's center, are really pushing toward a more "natural" approach to labor & delivery. My guess is due to their high percentage of c-sections a few years ago and their affiliation w/ UNC and their progressive birthing center (more on that later). Least that has been my impression throughout our pregnancy.

Our practice won't schedule induction til after 41 weeks (as long as all is well), putting me close to 42. They are all for my request to not use pitocin nor epidural. They're all for me laboring at home as long as I can b4 coming in. I was really pleased with the standard of care rex offers (in room, no episiotomy, birthing balls, shower access, lactation consult ASAP, pro-skin to skin contact). I'll be happy to share my actual experience with you (hopefully soon!)

That said, you may want to look in to the birthing center at UNC as they also have midwives available where you would be followed by both. My friend had a great experience there. For me the comfort of being close to th hospital was a factor in my decision to stick with my gyno practice for their OB services. So far, glad I have.

John Marks.

He's great and best of all, he's only a GYN. So you will never have to schedule around pregnant women's OB exams, etc. If you are pregnant, my suggestion is useless. Otherwise, I absolutely love and recommend him.

Good to know! And yeah, if the Rex birthing center is good I'd rather go with something close then having to make it to Chapel Hill while in labor. Knowing my luck a trailer of cooking oil will explode on 40 and completely shut down the highway for days as I'm trying to get there

I had both children at Rex and had wonderful experiences for both of them.

Even though both births turned into medical situations, the staff at Rex did their best to make my husband and I feel comfortable and at home. Everyone, even doctors, were so warm and friendly. I really felt taken care of and supported while I was there -- especially this last time with our baby in the special care nursery. Breastfeeding was/is impossible due to the cleft palates of both of my children, but they encouraged me to put both children to breast for bonding and I wasn't made to feel silly for trying. Then lactation helped me get set up to pump.

I almost didn't want to leave the hospital this last time because I felt like the nurses and aides who took care of me were my friends. My very knowledgeable and helpful friends. If anyone has any specific questions about my experiences at Rex, just ask. I never labored at Rex since both were planned C-sections, but I can def. tell you all about the OR, special care nursery, and postpartum care.

Well Capital Area is now out. They treated me terribly but joke's on them, apparently I got them in deep shit with the insurance company.

So... anyone use one that has an affiliation with WakeMed Cary?

No, but funny story about Capital Area, they fucked up a syphilis test and told us the day we were supposed to leave the hospital that we had it and probably gave it to our son. Hilarious now, absolutely horrible then. I'm not sure why she still goes to them, though I don't think she ever sees that particular doctor any more.

I was completely disgusted with them today. I've been a patient of theirs for over 10 years and left in tears of frustration this morning. Their doctors are great for the most part but their admin staff is terrible. And now that I've read reviews online apparently this is a common problem with that practice. So good riddance to bad rubbish

I don't either. But now that I've had our little buddy, Rex Healthcare was amazing.

Our labor and delivery nurse ROCKED. I'd love to cut her a check instead of our OB...though I love my OB; she just caught the babe and stitched me up. It was my L&D that helped me and my husband and coached me during that hour of pushing. And the post-partum care was great as well. All of the nurses were fantastic, they answered all of our questions, were mindful of our wishes, super helpful with breastfeeding, very comforting when i was hesitant to "send him to the nursery" (SEND THEM TO THE NURSERY! do it...it's necessary for sanity), food was delicious, and I would definitely deliver there again.

Unfortunately my insurance doesn't cover Rex Hospital, even though it covers most of their doctors. It's weird like that.

^^lol, yeah. For our first one we were extremely hesitant to part sight with her, on our second we said "bring him back when he's hungry, bye."

^^keep paying attention to if Rex ends up getting bought by WakeMed. May change that and by the time you're ready to start having kids they may accept your insurance.

True but to be honest after my experience today I want nothing to do with Rex and it's affiliates. I'll spend my insurance dollars elsewhere

The ob/gyn I use is affiliated with Wake Med Cary. That is where I had my baby....I didn't want to leave...it felt like a resort!

CARY OBSTETRICS & GYNECOLOGY
550 New Waverly Place Cary, NC

It's a big, busy practice, 5 or 6 doctors. I didn't have a problem with any of them

^ That's who I have an appointment with tomorrow morning. Glad to hear they're pretty good.

While you were with them, did you get a sense of how they feel about natural childbirth and medical intervention in general?
