Getting married July 30th in Durham and looking for a student who wants to make a hundred bucks or so (negotiable DOE) and build their portfolio. Ceremony is at 6, reception from 7-12. I was actually thinking we would film the ceremony, film a fun entrance into the reception, then set up the camera on a tripod and run it over the whole reception and have high-speed time lapse footage of that. Not looking for fancy filming or fancy editing (unless you wanted to for your own purposes). It would not be a hard job and you're welcome to all the food and alcohol you can stomach during the event. You can even leave the camera on the tripod and pick it up after. You're free to use the footage as your own after and I can provide a well-written, glowing work reference, and you can even put me on your resume as a reference or past employer. Looking for someone with professional style, and samples of your work would be helpful. Must have your own camera.

PM me and I will give you my e-mail so we can discuss. Thanks!

Pricing yourself that low in an insult to accomplished videographers and devalues the high quality work they do. This is your wedding, and hopefully your only one. Not the time to pinch pennies.

Professional meaning someone who will show up on time and act appropriately at a wedding, and the rate is negotiable depending on experience. It's an easy gig for beer money and a good reference can be worth more than cash when you're getting a BA.

Thanks!

You'd probably be better off handing an uncle a camera. Or finding a student at the NC School of the Arts.

Point is, buddy, that undercutting accomplished professionals by offering quote "beer money" for their services is doing a disservice to both herself and the individuals who make their living this way.

I wouldn't have come to TWW if I was looking for an "accomplished videographer." I am looking for someone with a camera to monitor a tripod for a couple hundred bucks and a reference. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Thanks!

I respect your right to find the lowest bidder. Just don't come back crying here when you get the finished product back and it looks like outtakes from a shitty Kate Hudson movie

I'm interested in this gig.

I've got loads of experience and a MA in Media
I do film sound so I can make sure it sounds great (how would you like to actually HEAR your vows?)
I've asked a videographer friend if he's interested

we'll probably cost you more than $100 but it would be worth it

^^^ I'm not your average TWWer although I've been here for a while - I actually left state to pursue my interests in media

I misread the caption in your photo gallery

I thought it said "Lot For Sale"

meaning that everything in the picture was included for a low, low price

to the haters:

even accomplished professionals need some extra cash in their pockets

and don't talk to me about undermining the established media industry in this area
my only response to you would be "what industry?"

I might do it for $100 if I was a buddy...

But I'm not pulling out $3500 worth of gear after I drive an hour each way for $100. The math is just not working out.

Your best bet would be to throw something on craigslist - maybe catch someone who's out for the summer from college or looking for a few side bucks. I'll send your info to a buddy in that exact situation.

You are on the right path, it doesn't have to be the most experienced or expensive videographer, but do some research and get someone that can show you their existing work. This is a prefect timing to find someone getting into HDSLR (google it) that is looking to build up their porfolio. This will be more lucrative for the aspiring videographer if the couple is good looking and if the reception has an interesting setting. If you have a semi-interesting and/or scenic reception (not sure how barebones your wedding is going to be), I would suggest that you skip on something else (cut down on flowers and downsize the cake?) and use the money for a good video. I put a lot of time into finding the right videographer for my wedding, and the video preserved the spirit of the wedding day like nothing else could (pm if you'd like to see a segment)

All that said, unless it is your buddy, 100 bucks aint gonna cut it. Also, don't offer the 100 bucks when you post your ad, or it will be taken as an insult as you can see above. Explain your tight budget situation and ask the videographer what is the best they can do. State that you will allocate some time throughout the wedding day to let him/her pose you and do his/her thing (and really be ready to do so). Describe the setting and promise to send the picture of the couple to interested parties.

Or you coulld borrow an HD camera from someone in your family or friend cicrle, set if on the tripod like you stated, and be prepared to fall asleep when you watch it on your first wedding anniversary.

I'll be halping one of my friends soon by filming and editing their wedding, not charging them money of course. Im not in the Triangle area anymore, so cant help ya unfortunately

These guys are who's in Wilmington.

...And they will destroy all foes. They edit that junk in a truck out back and play the final product after the cake cutting on the wedding day. That's freaking IMPRESSIVE.

if i wanted to take this guy up on his offer of $100 does anyone know where i could rent a shitty camcorder on the cheap?

dude is offering "all the food and alcohol you can stomach during the event"

this is a no-brainer

why aren't people jumping on this amazing opportunity instead of bitching about professional ethics and shit

you'll clear $100 if you have or can borrow a camera and you'll be well fed and drunk as fuck when you leave

Because no one wants their name on a shitty product. I wouldn't take a job unless I was sure I could do it correctly and meet my own standards (which are undoubtedly higher than any reasonable client). $100 doesn't begin to cover the cost of that. I appreciate trying to find a good bargain, but you get what you pay for, especially when dealing with something as full of scams/fakes/retards as wedding photography.
