trying to get together in a thread a list of doable food challenges that are here in NC. the more local the better.
1.) Buffalo Wild Wings Challenge-Eat 12 of their hottest wings in 6 minutes or less, no napkins, water or anything other than wings. I've done this one...its a bitch but I managed to pull it off with about a minute left.
2.) Krispy Kreme Challenge- run 2 miles to the bell tower, eat 12 donuts and run 2 miles back in under an hour without puking. Done this, was easier than I thought.
3.) Andy's Challenge-3 lb. hamburger with 4 toppings, a whole side of fries that make up a potato and a 32 oz drink in under an hour(I think this one is right, someone correct me if its not) havent done that one yet.
any others? 6/21/2011 10:39:29 PM |

Wolfie's in Boone has a 22" sub challenge in 30 minutes for a shirt Hot Diggity Dog in Boone has a 10 course meal in 30 minutes for a spot on the wall...not a fan 6/22/2011 7:49:55 AM |

There's a pretty sizable one at Ed's Tavern in Charlotte, I can't remember it off the top of my head but I think it's a 2lb. burger and 2lbs. of fries.
Also, here's a link for some eating contests: http://eatfeats.com/calendar/Charlotte.html 6/22/2011 7:55:08 AM |

The Backyard Bistro Burger Challenge...I'd be able to do it if you weren't required to eat slaw
2 lb. burger + 1 lb. bbq 1 lb. of fries a gallon of sweet tea
This isn't me, nor does it have slaw on it, but you get the idea:

The MoJoe's challenge isn't much of a challenge, but it fits your list.
Honestly I wouldn't include Buffalo Wild Wings--not really NC to begin with. BUT if you wanted a smaller chain's wing contest, I would look at East Coast Wings (I think that's their name?). I know they have a location in Greenville, and THEIR hotwings challenge is the stuff of legends (ghost chili extract? It's on a magnitude of 10,000 times hotter than Buffalo Wild Wins).
Cooper's BBQ has a food challenge but I don't remember the specifics of it. It's something like a pound of pork, pound of slaw, basket of hushpuppies, pound of brunswick stew, et cetera, and dessert too. I don't have the exacts of it, it's one an old piece of paper taped on the side of the wall, so you'd have to go there and copy it to know it exactly. 11/29/2011 3:19:55 PM |

I thought I was going to die...but I made it through. The lady told me it was between 4-5lbs. I felt like shit for a few hours after....had some ben&jerrys before bed and was fine the next day. No explosive diarrhea or anything either.11/29/2011 3:59:10 PM |

my days of food challenges are behind me, but I've done the banditos el gigante (have my picture on the wall somewhere), the BWW wing challenge (it wasn't much of a challenge at all... finished in like 4 minutes), and I can't think of any other ones that i've done. 11/29/2011 3:59:32 PM |

That east coast wings challenge looks easy since it's only 1 wing, but that wing will set your mouth, sinuses, throat, etc on fire for the next solid 15 minutes. Hottest thing I ever ate. 11/29/2011 4:18:24 PM |

To "do it" you just have to eat one wing, but the real challenge is setting the record. The current record is held by my brother--I think 15 wings? He later had a "near heart attack" like incident (I don't remember the real medical name for it) where basically the sheer amount of ghost chili extract put his body into delayed shock and he had to go to the hospital.
But really, serves his dumb ass right for doing that lethal shit.11/29/2011 9:19:29 PM |

Isn't there some drinking challenge where you have to drop like 6 different shots into some pitcher or something?
I like drinking challenges more because the odds of someone dying is way higher

I was going to mention the "East Coast Wings" thing. My friend did it no problem, but then again, he can eat spicy things no problem. The chef and manager came out to his table, made him sign a waiver, confirmed that he knew the risks, and made sure he wasn't intoxicated. He just said, "Bring on the wing already" Got a t-shirt out of it and everything.
And it's not really a "challenge" but Sunni Sky's icecream in Angier has the "Cold Sweat" spicy icecream... You have to sign a waiver to try it...but if you try it and finish it, they will let you try the even spicier version called "Exit Wound"

I have no idea if it's still a thing, and it's not exactly the same..
Ashworth Drugs in Cary, if you can break the hot dog record, you eat free. I haven't been there since high school (~8 years?) but I think it was at maybe 16 or 22. One of those numbers seem right but I don't know. Honestly I feel like I could sit there and pound hot dogs forever, but maybe it's hard. When I was in school it was set by a wrestler coming off cutting weight all season. 12/4/2011 2:30:13 AM |

I've done the blazing challenge several times. It's hot. Best time was 12 wings 1:42 at Garner BWW.
I've done 10 insanity wings dressed like fred flintstone at East Coast Wings. It was extremely painful, and the taste sucks. I then asked a waitress out...major fail
