So I've always hated laptops, but now I need one for a project I'm working on. Went to Best Buy, CompUSA, and a couple other places today. Didn't really find anything quality-ish.

Looking for a new or like-new laptop under $400. No gaming or video editing, just need to run ArcGIS.

If somebody can point me in the right direction that would be outstanding.

Shameless plug. http://outlet.lenovo.com/laptops.html?price=2%2C200

20-40% sale going on right now too. All the best deals are probably gone but still decent deals based on what you're looking for.

First choice for me would be a lenovo - with the sale you can find a few models falling into the $400 range - like the Thinkpad Edge. Gorgeous machine, dual core AMD inside.

Second choice would be an ASUS. They're reliable machines, but their keyboards are like typing on a pillow they flex so much (some models.) Their U- series are ligthweight and most pack a battery good for 11+ hours.

Also scope out a matte screen if you're planning on using this outdoors...
