I'm finalizing my thesis formatting and right now my Appendix is set as "Chapter 8" and I've just got figures/tables with their associated captioning

I'd like to get the Appendix out of this chapter 8 status and create sections like A1, A2, A3...

Is there a heading/style that already exists so that the Appendix will show up in the Table of Contents as "A" or the like, and subsections like the A1, A2, A3...?

Are you trying to change the page numbers to A1, A2, A3... or the heading to the A1, A2...?

Are you not using the built in Heading 1, Heading 2 styles? Whatever you type in those styles should show up in the table of contents labeled automatically.

If you just want to change the page numbers, highlight the current page number, right click, select "Toggle Field Codes" and replace everything highlighted (including the curly braces) with A1, A2... as you go.

i had to create a new style and found the nifty 'outline style' and 'page break before' settings
