Also, both the US Supreme Court and Mexico admitted that the Mexican would likely still be found guilty, its just that they wanted another 6 months to investigate the case and make sure that this case was handled in a way such that the rapist's rights weren't violated.

And another thing - Its not like this guy was a recent Mexican immigrant. This fuck moved to the US when he was a toddler. He's been living all but a few early childhood years in America. The prosecution was just looking for loopholes to get him a "get out of a jail free" card.

This seems like a completely asinine problem to even be having. Allowing him to contact the consulate would make this a non-issue. The Vienna treaty does not require shipping them back or granting physical access to the consulate but, as clarified in the ruling, merely requires them to be allowed to contact it. The choice made in some jurisdictions to send back suspects rather than continue with prosecution and sentencing here is a mistake made by people in that jurisdiction and not anything required by the treaty.
