Considering the number of car advertisements I see talking about how aforementioned car blocks all external driving noise I don't really see the difference.

If I am forced to use headphones, I'll put one in and leave the other out. That's my compromise.

Also, I leave for work at 6:15AM to avoid traffic hassles and still see people talking on their cells while driving. Who are they calling? You would think that most people would be angry if someone called them at that hour. Guess everyone has friends in England or something.

When my radio was locked I had to do this. I also used the one headphone in and one out rule

I'm pretty sure this is illegal, but I could be wrong.

it's also pretty stupid, as people need to be aware of their surroundings!

You're never forced to use headphones.

Nothing, I can hear better with earbuds in than some old lady or some dumbass with his system turned up.

It's a figure of speech, but I'm fairly certain you're not dumb enough to have missed that. I'm too cheap to buy a plug in for my iPod, so it's either ride for 8 hours in silence, use one headphone (which allows me to hear more of the road than if I were just listening to the something over the stereo system), or plug my iPod docking station into a power converter and sit it on the front seat
