My cat is just tall enough to pee right on the lip of the litter box at times, so what do I do?!

My one cat is such a prissy pants. She manages to stand with all fours on the thin lip of the litter box, takes her dump, then while standing outside the litter box uses her one paw to cover it up. Between scratches she'll take the paw and scrape it against the edge of the box to get any litter off her paw. As a result, our guest bathroom is covered in litter

^ my cat does that too. and if it is on carpet she'll pull the carpet up trying to get litter off her paw
anyways, i have started using a higher litter box
she has a rug under the litterbox now in hopes of catching her litter spray and so she scratches at that instead of the real carpet
for the peeing on the edge problem, just use a higher walled box! rubbermaid containers work well! 7/17/2011 8:41:49 PM |

Yeah higher litter box does us no good because she doesn't stand in the litter at all, just scrapes her paw on the lip of the litter box. So it could be 10 feet tall and she'd manage to get litter all over the damn place. 7/17/2011 8:45:28 PM |

Get an igloo litter box. 7/17/2011 8:47:25 PM |
khcadwal All American 35165 Posts user info edit post |
the igloo doesn't work for me because my cat won't go all the way in it (i have one - that i don't use obviously)
a) she's kinda large so i don't think she fits well lol
b) she just goes into the stair part and poops/pees (there's no litter in the stair part) 7/17/2011 8:48:50 PM |

We tried that and she took to pissing in the bathtub. If she has to touch the litter she won't use the box 7/17/2011 9:11:04 PM |
