Miller Motte in Cary is good, if you go with the licensed massage therapist instead of the student (some students are good, but it's a crap shoot).

Hands On Health in Raleigh or Cary.

http://www.handsonhealthnc.com/

They are great massage therapists with a few medical message therapists at the locations as well. I highly recommend them!

I've had good experiences with Moonshadow Massage in Cary - I've been a handful of times over the years. One of the ladies talked through the whole hour massage, but I don't remember her name. She was really nice though and did a great job so I didn't mind. http://www.moonshadowmassage.com

Cary Massage was the worst massage I've ever had by far. First they called me the day of my appointment and said they had to cancel because the a/c broke. OK, understandable, but they weren't very accommodating when I rescheduled. When I got there, the massage was awful. My bf and I got a couples massage and he didn't like it either - he said the lady kept trying to rub his face. http://www.carymassagetherapy.com

^ I had a bad massage at Cary Massage too. We also did a couple's massage and my boyfriend said his was good (but it was also his first so he had nothing to compare it with), but the lady who did mine wouldn't actually apply pressure even though I kept asking for a firmer massage.

I posted asking this in the What are you thinking thread...
Does anyone know anywhere that's cheaper, like a student school, or people that offer half hour rates instead of a full hour? I can't afford anything near that, but my back has been killing me lately to the point where I want to take ibuprophen or something every time I stretch (which is frequently, I don't just sit around)

^yup. See my post above.

Also, the licenses massage therapists are just about as cheap as the students. Great prices:

If you go to Miller Motte, ask for Charla, she is amazing. She will leave you sore for days in the most amazing ways. She releases tension from places you don't even know you carry tension.

^^That's completely not true. They always ask what I prefer. Also--you don't *have* to go with a student, you can go with a Licensed Therapist. (At miller motte).

I, too, had a bad massage at Cary Massage. Bad enough that I didn't tip her at all.

what's the tipping policy for massages? (insert "just the tip" joke here)

For Miller Motte, you cannot tip the students. For the Licensed Therapists, usually 10-15% is standard. So, I pay $40 for the massage and tip 5-10 depending on how good it was.

Charla being a professional, not a student?
Also, I'm considering doing this for myself as a birthday present, or maybe waiting a month and going as a 6-month thing with my man. Too cheesy? Lol.

Did you do the aromatherapy treatment as well/what do you think of it?

Charla is a professional.

I did not do the aromatherapy, because it's like an extra $12, and I didn't want to spring for it. I've done it before (not at Miller Motte), and sometimes the scent is so strong it gives me a bit of a headache, so I prefer to go without it.

They do have a couple's room, and you can do a couple's massage. I tried to book one for my anniversary with my husband, but they overbooked, and we got booted. Oh well. I definitely recommend doing it for yourself. I never did the 6 month gift thing, so I have no advice as to whether that's too cheesy!
