rofl! It's not an Onion story.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/07/18/995172/-Poor-people-running-out-of-money,-Wal-Mart-suffering?via=siderec

Quote :
"Mike Duke, the CEO of Wal-Mart, describes his customers as “broke” at the end of every month, when they cease to shop at his stores even for essentials until their next government support check comes in. These are “average” Americans, which means they have $10,000 or less in savings to their name, they clearly live paycheck to paycheck, they are burdened with debt, they have absorbed the bulk of the enormous job losses that have occurred in this depression, and if they have a job they haven’t see a real pay increase in over a decade."

Probably should go into the SB, but I thought the headline was pretty funny and had to share.

I'd be willing to bet that at least 85% of Americans have less than 10k in savings.

Yesterday I went to Walmart and Confucius was in front of me getting all mad that the express checkout was longer. So I was all like, IF YOU DON'T RUNT TO RAIT IN RINE, DON'T GO TO RARART.

I just think that having less than 10k in savings is hardly the same indicator of a person's economic frailty as some other things.

I think there is a clog in the rich people. Better get the poor people to ram a stick through the middle class and unjam it.

how damn worthless are people that the median net worth of a 29 year old is $8,525. I'm sorry but you just aren't trying to make anything of your life at that point.

^^^^ by bullshit life plan you mean not wanting to be over my head in debt for silly shit and having the funds to ensure i don't end up living under a bridge if an employment market shift craps on me?

And yes 401k counts towards your net worth

It puts 1475 for anyone under 25

I'm living the Medium Chill: http://www.grist.org/living/2011-06-28-the-medium-chill

Quote :
"The medium chill involves what economists call satisficing: abandoning the quest for the ideal in favor of the good-enough. It means stepping off the aspirational treadmill, foregoing some material opportunities and accepting some material constraints in exchange for more time to spend on relationships and experiences."

They have. Low skilled laborers suffer and they will continue to suffer because there isn't a high demand for low skill labor in the US- its not in our comparative advantage. As demand for low skilled labor decreases there is a corresponding downward pressure on salaries for those who perform those jobs. Income and jobs in high-skilled labor continue to grow. Plus, tax cuts help increase government revenue, reducing the need for foreign loans and investment.

I sure hope not since a majority of those would have a mortgage and 2.3 kids. 10k is very little to have set aside. The net worth per age also seems very low but believable.

My Net worth is still a small $150,000.
I should be a millionaire by 45 at my current pace.

I hope the country lasts that long.
I hope a million dollars is still worth a million dollars in 15 years.
I hope I still have my health to spend all that dough.
