Starbucks: No-bake cheesecake slice: $5.33
Costa Coffee (British global chain), Coffee Republic (British global chain), The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (LA-based global chain): Baked cheesecake (even flavored ones) slice: $4.00 - $4.50
(those prices are from the same city)
Are they really that stupid? Or do they think customers are that stupid?
(I remember seeing baked cheesecake slices at Starbucks 2 years ago for $4.27, but for some odd reason, they only have no-bake cheesecake for the last year or so)
On that note, I had a slice of Oreo cheesecake from Coffee Republic today, and it was one of the best cheesecakes I have ever had. And it cost $4.27. 7/22/2011 7:21:39 PM |

which one?
the ones at starbucks had different toppings: strawberry, blueberry, caramel
the baked ones at the other places, i say 3 different types: oreo, caramel-apple, and plain
all places were out of zucchini-flavored! 7/22/2011 7:32:54 PM |

ru4serious?
never seen in this in a supermarket?
i have been seeing them for decades. you mix up the stuff... and refrigerate! also called as "refrigerator cheesecake". i guess if it was made from scratch (not a box), it might be nice, but still far far away from a baked one.
you can tell in any pastry shop if it is a no-bake one if the color is white, as opposed to yellow/creamy color for a baked one. 7/22/2011 9:03:15 PM |

Just stopped by the first branch of PAUL here... even their cheesecake slice cost a bit less than Starbucks'.
For those who don't know, PAUL is a 122 year old authentic French artisanal bakery and patisserie (and now a restaurant as well), with branches around the world.
There are 5 in the US; 1 in DC and 4 in FL. If you ever get a chance, YOU HAVE TO GO THERE!!! I have tried their stuff in the UK and in Dubai, and it is exceptionally yummy and gorgeous.

hahaha
but really, i don't get anything from starbucks, except for a dessert or a fruit salad, perhaps twice per year. even the other cafes i listed, i usually just get some dessert from them a few times a year.
i am not even a coffee drinker. i am a tea drinker, and i avoid as much as i can to get tea at any restaurant/cafe... cuz they charge $2.50-3.00 for tea, and i can make the EXACT same thing (using same teabags) at home for about $0.10-0.20, and i can much more easily control the amount of water and milk at home. they always botch it up outside.
as for this thread, i happened to see the prices passing by their glass display in a mall. 7/23/2011 9:40:06 AM |
