I live in a building that was built in the 1890's and in an area where there is a huge demand for apartments like mine. Landlords have no incentive to upgrade properties due to the fact that they can rent them so easily. I have some experience doing home maintenance and I'm interested in renovating our bathroom. It probably hasn't been updated since the 60's and is starting to fall apart. I would be willing to eat the cost of the new vanity/toilet/tile etc and do the labor myself. I am just worried I will get in a whole mess of trouble if I screw something up. Is it worth it? I'm afraid to ask the property manager because I don't want to be told no. Seems like a dumb idea, but it would really make living much more comfortable.

If its falling apart the landlord has to fix it.

you do realize that guerrilla's typical catch their shit and fling it at their enemies right? Not quite the inspiration I would use for my own personal bathroom. Unless you have a lot of enemies.

In this thread, people show that they don't know the difference between gorilla and guerrilla.

pretty hard to fuck up a toilet and vanity. I say do it though I'd probly demand it be done first and if he says no, do it myself

Not your property. You could be sued if you messed something up.

if it really is a historical property and you don't own it... of course you have to get permission.

also this is hardly guerilla if you do it yourself; you live there. Now if someone came in the dead of night and did everything before you woke up that would be guerilla.

if you haven't figured it out yet maybe chit-chat was a poor location for your thread.
Try old school or lounge next time.

Thank you,

I looked at a bunch of other places this past month but found nothing worth moving to. As I said the market highly favors property owners, not renters. Nearly all rentals require you to pay a full (sometimes half) month fee up front. Having seen what else was available in my price range I am convinced I am getting a pretty good deal, which only strengthens the fact that the landlord is under no pressure to renovate the property. The more I think about it the more I convince myself to just do it.
