This could probably stand to be a Lounge topic but Chit Chat brings the instant satisfaction.

Has anyone sold used books for store credit / money in Raleigh, specifically at Reader's Corner or Edward McKay? They're the only two I know that will give you money as well as store credit, and I was wondering if anyone had a preference or knew anything about it.

I have a ton of books I'm selling (in good condition) and wouldn't mind some cash instead of just store credit.

I've sold books at Reader's Corner. The cash they'll give you is less than the credit.

When I take books there, there's always a couple they won't give credit for. You can leave them outside on their el-cheapo rack (the proceeds from outside book sales are donated to NPR and pay for This American Life) or take them elsewhere. I usually take books to Goodwill if Reader's Corner doesn't want them.

I've never been to Edward McKay.

There use to be a somewhat less discriminating used book store across the street from Reader's Corner. I don't know if it's still there.

There's another used book store in the same shopping center as the Cary Trader Joes. I've never sold books there, though.

I have bought vinyls from Nice Price but didn't know anything about them for selling books.

I hear Edward McKay can afford to give you more money, but I like Reader's Corner and Nice Price for books better.

Which is why I came TO YOU ALL.

Should probably just PM vinylbandit though.

I've had good luck at Reader's Corner, though I usually end up spending more money than I get every time I go in there

This thread is relevant to my interests.

I was actually in Chapel Hill/Carrboro today with a box of books to sell. I went to Nice Price and they would not do cash--store credit only. So I left and went to The Bookshop, who were interested in a handful of them. They offered one amount in cash, and that amount times 1.5 in store credit.

Will probably be visiting Reader's Corner myself with what I have left to see if they will buy any of them. Hopefully Netstorm and I are not selling any of the same titles.

Where *is* Edward McKay? I have heard of it many times but do not know where it is.

I brought two giant boxes stuff with books, some DVDs, games, and CDs to Edward McKay's. They didn't take much out of my boxes, basically just my really good literature (almost none of my commercial paperbacks), and almost none of the DVDs, games, CDs. They gave me the option of:

$120 Trade-In (64 of which was Premium Trade-In, which you can use towards video games)

OR

$65 Cash and $31 Trade-In.

I took the cash and credit, then used all the trade-in credit buying more books.

Going to take my leftovers to Reader's Corner and see how that goes.
