""Even if some people say, well the Republicans should have done this or they should have done that, they will hold the president responsible," said Lamborn said Friday during an interview on a Denver radio station. "Now I don't want to even have to be associated with him. It's like touching a tar baby and you get, you get it, you know… you are stuck and you are part of the problem now and you can't get away.""

I guess people calling this racist have never read Brier Rabbit.

Do black people even like Obama anymore? Wasn't the black middle class demolished while he was in office?

I don't think it's racist, but I think it was a poor choice of words.

^ Exactly. That's the argument I'm having with a friend of mine right now. Her response: "Yeah but in the black community, it's racist."

It's because Disney won't re-release Song of the South. I guess they hope the movie will be forgotten about in a few more generations.

^^ I have a picture under that sign.

Like I said, I don't think the congressman meant it to be racist, and I don't think he's racist for using it, but it's definitely been used pejoratively in the past.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tar_baby#Term

Quote :
"Although the term's provenance arose in African folklore (e.g., the gum doll Anansi created to trap Mmoatia, the dwarf), some Americans now consider "tar baby" to have negative connotations revolving around negative images of African-Americans.[2]
The Oxford English Dictionary (but not the print version of its American counterpart) lists "tar baby" as a derogatory term for a black or a Maori.[3"

Although, it goes on to mention that several politicians and such have used it in metaphorical manner.

If someone can point out where another congressman used the term "tar baby" in reference to a non-black public figure in the last 20 years, then I will consider this not racist.

Tony Snow talking about the phone tapping scandal during the Bush administration.

Quote :
" Look at the poll that appeared the following day. While there was -- part of it said 51 percent of the American people opposed, if you look at when people said, if there is a roster of phone numbers, do you feel comfortable that -- I'm paraphrasing and I apologize -- but something like 64 percent of the polling was not troubled by it. Having said that, I don't want to hug the tar baby of trying to comment on the program -- the alleged program -- the existence of which I can neither confirm nor deny."

"In a speech Saturday, Romney, a Republican considering a run for president in 2008, acknowledged he took a big political risk in taking control of the project after a fatal tunnel ceiling collapse, but said inaction would have been even worse.

"The best thing politically would be to stay as far away from that tar baby as I can," he told a crowd of about 100 supporters in Ames, Iowa."

Buhman said he used the term to describe a piece of property that would be difficult to develop. He read several definitions of the term, saying it was used to describe a tricky situation and was not used as a racial slur."

He's not black. He's mulatto.

If you mix vodka with orange juice do you still call it orange juice? Do you still call it vodka? No. It's a screwdriver.

Obama is just as white as he is black. Calling him one or the other is incorrect. He's mulatto... and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

^^I know what he is. Everyone does, as he's been under a microscope for years now. And everyone calls him black, so STFU.

^I'm saying that nobody would have cared if it was Bush instead of Obama. Nobody seemed to care about those images the circulated of W being compared to a monkey. If someone tried that shit now it'd be quite the uproar.
