Vilnius, Lithuania.

Video in link.

Quote :
"A word of advice: The next time you're cruising the streets of Vilnius, Lithuania in your luxury ride and are suddenly beset by the urge for a cup of kvass and/or a slice of honey cake, don't just pull over and leave your vehicle illegally parked in a bike lane. Seriously. Mayor Arturas Zuokas and, we imagine, Lithuanian cyclists, aren't amused by such antics.

While some municipalities might be content to leave tickets on the windshields of bike-lane blocking scofflaws, the good mayor recently realized owners with Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, and Rolls-Royce keys in their pocket not be dissuaded by such minor punitive action, so he decided a better parking enforcement tool might just be an armored personnel carrier.

Hit the jump to watch a video involving the aforementioned APC, the mayor and a hapless S-Class.
"

1) Cute how the mayor arrives and leaves on a bike, but in between he is in basically in a tank with tires.
2) I am all for tough measures against those who break traffic rules, but this is a 'bit' tough handed, no?
3) Perhaps it would have been better to distribute leaflets all over the city warning of this, and then waiting for a week before destroying the first car.
4) So does the victim get compensation from the government? Would their insurance (suppose they have comprehensive) pay for this? They total your car, so that's like anything from 50K to 100K loss to you. Would they even dare do this to the RR or the Ferrari? An old S-Class? That dude is not that rich.
5) In light of the above points, how is this legal?

P.S. I wonder what the victim said in response, as they didn't subtitle that. Regardless, he was shockingly calm though... I would have thought anybody would throw a rage-filled tantrum if they were subjected to that.

well i think it is a staged publicity stunt too... but publicity stunt for what? are they warning people in the city that that's what would happen to their cars? if so, then the question of legality arises. they can't just destroy cars like that just because they made a video to warn the residents. so if they can't pull it off for real, what's the point of that [expensive] publicity stunt?

anyway, pretty funny to watch though.

It's a campaign ad. It's fake. It's a joke.
