anyone familiar with what they are in regards to modifications, etc.? i'm familiar with the world of warranty claims and their limits, but have never bothered or had the need to educate myself on recalls until now.

the case in question is regarding my c5. early models were plagued by steering wheel lock problems, and gm issued a recall that is still active and covers my car. recently, it has begun exhibiting some of the classic symptoms that occur before failure. obviously, i would love to get this fix covered by a dealer for free, but common sense tells me no way it's eligible due to fairly extensive modifications and lack of factory parts in several major areas. the most questionable in this situation being the presence of an aftermarket non airbag steering wheel. while nothing has been modified or even touched in relation to the wheel lock or any other part of the column, i could see the argument being made that this change is a contributing factor to the failure.

so, anyone know the guidelines or have relative experience with recalls before i call a dealer and likely get a wrong answer?
