Man, this is some fucked up shit.

I mean I think it would really hard to justifiably say this is more effective than other, more traditional means of collecting warranted child-support abusers. Likely the enforcement officers in this question would cite that many of the offenders don't have a permanent residence, and that's fair enough, but they did get the mail somehow... so yeah, don't know about this one.

Seems supremely ineffective in terms of wasting man-hours.

so compared to visiting all the addresses they have and probably striking out at many of them, this might actually be a more efficient use of resources

The entire system of child support needs extreme reforms.

That said, glad they took these deadbeats off the street. I don't think it's that fucked up, but as outside viewers we tend to sympathize with the reason the people went there, and not the reason the sting took place.

2.) Laugh as the economy crashes and these poor dopes suddenly make half their former income.
3.) Make it judicially difficult, expensive or impossible for the father to readjust his payment schedule.
4.) Spend thousands on balloons and a fake publicity stunt to put father in jail for years, where his debts will be completely forgiven while the taxpayers spend tens of thousands to incarcerate him.
5.) Weep for his children.

Using her Sec State powers her office merged a huge amount of data to the OCSE and State Dept on a feel-good-demonize the deadbeat dads campaign.

Then on the state level the Driver License restrictions come into effect. Then if you're still in arrears by age 65, the Social Security Administration will get involved and garnish benefits directly to the other party on a monthly basis until total balance is paid or death.

There are about 5 Federal Agencies now involved in this and at least 3 State Agencies involved in each unique case. It is such a mess.

This has been used to lure violent offenders in before. It gets them out of their element, typically unarmed, and allows for an element of surprise. It ends up safer, and allows them to lure in people who wander from place to place.

There are appropriate uses for the tactic, in this situation, I think conventional means may have been better suited

What they fail to mention is that being in arrears isn't enough for issuing a warrant but that the actual arrest warrant is probably for contempt of court to make the initial judgment to start the payments.

This is why it's important to have a cop friend run your name from time to time. Just to be safe. Also be sure to check your parking ticket status too because assholes will take them off your windshield so you never get the notice

Honestly, Lee County isn't necessarily bumfuck Bama... that's where Auburn is - and even though there still isn't a large amount of people there in comparison to Jefferson county or near Tuscaloosa, it's definitely better than a lot of other counties around here.


And... I think you're underestimating how much these people love their football - ESPECIALLY the Iron Bowl. I wouldn't be surprised if they could pull this stunt year after year without a hitch

I don't find anything wrong with it. they probably took in a lot of people that day, not just the 4 on the video. also, i'll bet a lot of them didn't have addresses. The police may have just sent the letters to relatives or former mailing addresses to which they still have ties and hoped they would contact them.

news says 12 were arrested owing in total about 250,000 in back child support, so not a lot but more than they showed. can't find anything showing how many letters they actually sent out or any more details on that though.
