Water might not break until just moments before delivery or it may need to be broken. Rule of thumb is head to the hospital/birthing center when contractione are 5 minutes apart, each lasting 1 minute for 1 hour.

And water can break in a gush (like mine did requiring towels and trash bag for car) or a trickle (where you'd prolly just want a towel). A trickle you could still have hours and hours of labor ahead of you.

^^ i watched this piece one of the news agencies did about Indian women being surrogates for Americans. Basically you pay the Indian woman to carry the baby for you and then you show up when the baby is about to be born. The Indian women don't mind it because it's good money and they get to stay at these "mommy camps" where they're taken care of and have medical care.
