That is true of many people. I'm fascinated by foreigners and spark up conversation if it becomes known to me that they're not from the United States. I haven't traveled much at all, so I like hearing alternate perspectives.

China is fairly conservative compared to other developed Asian nations.

Most asian nations despise foreigners in my experience. I would love to work/teach there but they don't value people of different races as much compared to the US. Obviously if you were to compare a large Asian city to rural North Carolina you may think they don't like foreigners but I doubt Chinese cities the size of Raleigh are as accepting of foreigners. Money may play a factor in how foreigners are treated face to face, but treating someone like a cash cow is not respectful.

^^ For the 6 weeks I was in China, I never felt like that, until I was with one of "their" women. Then you get all types of looks from the guys...

And yeah, this was in a city of about 200,000 people. But most of the time I was in a city of 9 million people. I never got a feeling of disrespect or that they didn't want us there. Most people seemed indifferent. If anything, we were more of a spectacle. Some seemed fascinated.

I could see this in Japan though. They are racist as fuck. South Korea wouldn't be too bad IMO, nor Taiwan. I'm not so sure on Malaysia, Thailand or even Vietnam (they probably hate French people, so they're normal in my book).

We've had liberal state leaders for decades, until recently when conservatives started picking up some slots (but still don't have majority in all 3 places) and this state voted for the most liberal president in history.

yeah dude you need to get your facts straight... NC may be conservative out in the counties with tripple digit populations... but the big counties usually go blue but tend to make us a coin flip state.

Actually, fuck you guys, I like shoot. When I was at State, I lived in Alexander and knew a lot of people who just wanted any and all chances to practice their English.

There are a lot of lazy, slow people here who do not like foreigners, but they have mostly not been outside of North Carolina. Most Americans don't even bother to get a passport. There's this ignorance that people like to revel in, that everything great comes from America. Never mind that they all have Sony electronics, drive Toyotas or VWs, and are getting their ass kicked on technology, exports, and education by Asia.

shoot: would you say that most Chinese where you are from are very religious, or do they still follow in the tradition of the communist party in not being religious?

I hate communist party actually. The major religion in China is Confucianism. It emphasizes on everybody is nice when he is born. But I know Christian tells us everybody is evil when he is born right?
I'm not a part of communist party. Before I come to US, I'm an almost true believer of Confucianism.

Yes, I know some people have never been out of NC. Especially farmers in western NC.

I also like Buddhism. Chinese culture is kinda combination of Buddhism and Confucianism.
