My amway IBOs and I hang out by groceries on friday evenings trying to incruit new entrepeneurs to our business teams. Most groceries are ok with it but WHOLE FOODS runs us away.

oh god don't get me started.

Part of my job right now is bringing new students to the supermarket and Wal-mart. The random ass shit they buy makes me go every time. I understand some of them have never cooked for themselves before but packets of hot dogs and a case of ramen does not a balanced diet make.

Parents and schools don't teach kids enough about nutrition. Just another factor in the obesity epidemic.

^ Yeah that doesn't apply to my students so much. Most of them are in their late-20s early-30s and 90% of them are international students. I think crappy college dining happens regardless of upbringing and education lol.

when my bank account is low I too, eat collegey.

when my bank account is high, I shop at whole foods and look like a food network chef.

This could be a factor.

Also, when I am super slammed for time or busy, I eat out or eat frozen food or hotdogs/quick.

Good point. When I'm low on money, I skip meals and eat free crackers and stale bagels.

It's so cheap to eat crap!

I just eat cheap lunches and dinners. But if I don't eat the exact same breakfast everyday I get sick.

Luckily, breakfast is a relatively cheap meal. Unless you need lox or steak and eggs for breakfast.

I don't find that to be the case. Processed, starchy carbs end up not saving me any money because they don't make me any less hungry. Buying things like nuts, fruits, vegetables, and meat end up saving me money because I'm not likely to eat a bag of junk food since those items I mentioned actually keep me satisfied.

I find that vegetables actually aren't very filling.

But you can fix that by wilting them in bacon grease.

OK, first of all, how dumb does a freshman have to be to not make their parents buy the first load of groceries and supplies? This is college 101. You say, "Well, I guess all I need is some food and other items..." and any halfway decent parent of an 18-year-old is going to whisk them to Food Lion and K-Mart or Target and buy shit on their dime.

Once this food is gone, the freshman in question will cease to eat anything of nutritional value for the next 1-4 years.

Obviously there are exemptions for orphans and international students.

---

I ate absolute garbage when I was an undergrad, but I kept a relatively even keel as far as weight and health went. No idea how the health stayed, but the weight was kept in check by the fact that I never lived anywhere with reliable air conditioning, and hot weather makes me want food like I want a dick in my eye (which, contrary to what someone is bound to say, equates to "not very much").

It's the ultimate evolutionary weeding-out system. You take what are, presumably, the smarter members of society -- at least compared to the slack-jawed yokels who barely eeked through high school -- and put them all together. Then, you subliminally encourage them to eat food devoid of any benefit beyond their ability to fill a stomach or absorb alcohol. The ones that immediately bloat like a starving kid's stomach are not prime breeding stock. Those whose metabolisms can adjust, on the other hand, are bound to survive any nutritional disaster.

Well i've only lived on this side of town for about a year and a half and I guess last year I went at better times. I didn't think 8pm on a tuesday night would be too busy.

also this sometimes applies to the tryon harris teeter

which i might actually call "the best" harris teeter in raleigh... less of a clusterfuck than the one at cameron village and not stupid like that 2 story one at north hills

I'm sure we've passed each other at either one of those establishments then. I practically live at the HT on Tryon. Although I prefer to go shopping on Saturdays. Less of a crowd.

The Teeter on Falls of The Neuse is where it's at. Not crowded, always free samples, and cheese specials out the wazoo.

also what were these freshman doing buying groceries?
