I hope you own a store one day so I can park in front of it and sell the same shit.

you're welcome to park 100 feet away
which is no different than if you opened a store two doors in the same block
plus, none of the food trucks want to deal with dragon-shirted idiots anyway, and the main complaints are coming from those glenwood owners
ALSO, you can park a hot dog cart on the sidewalk with a city permit...how is a food truck any different? ] 8/24/2011 2:28:49 PM |

I hate it when I'm going to a nice dinner with my family or my girl and some hot dog vendor steals my business. One minute you're looking forward to a tasty appetizer, entree, and a few drinks in a nice setting and the next thing you know, BAM!!!! you just at three hot dogs and a Pepsi on the freakin' sidewalk and you got ketchup on your favorite dragon shirt. 8/24/2011 2:31:22 PM |

Are hot dog vendors really discriminate on who they want to serve? They need to check themselves and remember they are hot dog vendors...

To be fair, I think I'd rather get a street hot dog than go to Glenwood South most of the time anyway 8/24/2011 2:39:41 PM |

What's really obnoxious is that after I spend a couple hundred bucks on overpriced drinks for myself and my friends I have to make the cabbie stop at Snoopys on the way home because someone thinks a guy slinging hotdogs on the sidewalk is a threat to his business. 8/24/2011 2:39:44 PM |

^^^ Obviously they'll serve whoever comes to the truck, but they're not going to park the trucks off Glenwood, where nearly everyone is an asshole. All of the complaints about the proposal to allow trucks are coming from Glenwood restaurant owners (aside from Big Ed's, which is kinda bizarre). 8/24/2011 3:03:46 PM |

There are quite a few in Durham as well. Every so often they'll have a "food truck rodeo" at the Farmer's Market where a bunch of them all show up to the same place so it becomes kind of like a food truck food court. Gets crowded, but good stuff. 8/26/2011 11:12:56 AM |

Anecdotal-- went to the food truck rodeo in durham a couple weeks back. Far too many folks showed up, and we weren't going to wait an hour and a half for food truck food, so we went over to Tyler's since we were already in downtown durham.
The waitress warned us that the food may take longer to come out than normal because they got a ton of unexpected business from other people who didn't want to wait so long at the rodeo.
From what I gathered talking to others, a lot of other restaurants close to the rodeo location ended up getting extra business due to the huge turnout at the food truck event.
Durham has fully embraced food trucks, with very little scandal or outrage from local restaurateurs. In this case, the food trucks helped increase business for the downtown restaurants. The douchebags in downtown Raleigh should be taking notes. 8/26/2011 11:19:29 AM |

Not trying to talk shit, but there are numerous places I would've gone than Tyler's after getting shut out at the Food Truck Rodeo. Durham is still growing and has a lot of potential; it's not quite there yet, but Tyler's sucks. Pretty much anywhere up in that ATC sucks for food.
Also, not sure you could compare Raleigh to Charlotte by any means. One's a city, the other is like 5 blocks. It's nobody's fault but your own if you don't know where to go to avoid the stacked polo shirts in Charlotte. 8/26/2011 11:29:07 AM |

Something you might come to learn one day: When you have small children with you, you tend to choose where to eat based on prior knowledge of said places being kid friendly. But you go ahead and drop that high horse bullshit. 8/26/2011 11:34:27 AM |

I see both sides. food trucks can be ghetto. but so can restaurants. so... allow food trucks. The market will either let the food trucks flourish, shut them down, or force them to move to other, more profitable places.
