I killed it with fire raid. I kinda feel bad, but I don't need my dogs getting bit by something like this. They come back with enough bull rings ( beatles will bite their nose and the dogs will decapitate them by licking. quite intriguing but a PITA to remove).

I've got a bunch of those yellow and black orb-weavers all over the place, and I kill them even though they're harmless--just kinda scary.

I know they're not actually called orb-weavers or spinners though, but I can never remember their actual name. Don't think the ones I'm talking about are yellow garden spiders.

I thought black/yellow meant venomous?

Doesn't that rhyme go "black and yellow, they will murder you in your sleep"?

if black touches yellow, you're a dead fellow

if red touches black, you're ok Jack

(for coral snakes)

Nerdchick is write, this is a garden spider (aka a writing spider)... the only spiders I enjoy

Dude, I don't even kill garden spiders. And I'm terrified of spiders.

RIP Mr. Garden Spider. We barely knew you.

Aw, next time let them crawl on over here. I caught and released several crickets from my apartment last night.

My older brother used to get them on the end of a stick and hold me down, then dangle them in front of my face.

Hence, my egregious fear of spiders.

WRONG.

if black RED touches yellow, you're a dead fellow

if red touches black, you're ok Jack

Both scarlet snakes and scarlet kingsnakes, which are the two southeastern coral snake lookalikes have black bands touching white/cream/yellow bands.

if it's clear and yella, you got juice there, fella.

if it's tangy and brown, you're in cider town.

unfortunately there is no way to identify this picture. If I were a gambling woman I would say a wolf spider too ^. They are very common and that is the right body structure and the legs look like lycosid legs, so it fits.

I'm fairly certain that my watching of Arachnophobia when I was way too young contributed to my extreme fear of spiders. I can't stand these threads. yyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

i believe cellar spiders (granddaddy long-legs or whatever you want to call them) also eat black widows and brown recluses

the spider in that grainy photo above doesn't have the same body shape as a wolf spider & looks way smaller.

maybe there are different types...? the ones around here look like the one in that video. a longer, flatter body. like this

it looks like a female with a full set of eggs ready to come out, and this is the right time of year.

also it could be any number of species from the lycosidae family.

I did hit it with a flip flop, and she exploded with about 50 little ones.. Freaked me out even more. Can they live without the mom? They could move on their own and everything but I stomped all over the place. I'd hate for one day in a week to have like 10 of them in my garage

I have no doubt more than 10 spiders already live in your garage.

well sure, but there's still 10+ spiders in there, and they're all poisonous. C'est la vie.

One of my most terrifying childhood memories was Christmas of 2nd grade. We're all chilling on the couch watching TV when we notice our cat acting strange beside the Christmas tree. Look over and there's hundreds of tiny grey spiders pouring out of the base of the Christmas tree on the hunt. I wasn't able to sleep for weeks
