I noticed my graphics got really pixelated the other day while playing jedi outcast on my macbook pro. I looked at the temperature and it wasn't bad, but it could be better. It only happens during the game with the highest settings for graphics.

If they do work, what do you recommend?

i have a targus with dual fans...but i never bother to plug them in

just raising it off your lap/table/whatever using something that allows (better) airflow beneath it is beneficial

it was worth the $5 i paid, anyway

initially showing at 72 degrees (Celsiu) for the diode and now showing between 63 and 69. Now that's lowering the temp, but is it enough?

Every little bit helps, especially with a laptop where you can't just crack it open and install a better cooling system without making some more serious modifications.

Plus it helps me because I tend to pick up my laptop one handed on the right side instead of the center. So if I pick it up by the cooling pad it doesn't put as much stress on the case (my laptop has gotten it's case cracked in the same place twice because of how I pick it up, thankfully Asus fixed it the first time under warranty).

Found your problem. They aren't design to be played on... only to be pretty and easy.

Picked up one of these on sale for ~$12 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834997730

Works well, never have seen it go above 60 celsius max while in heavy use. I mostly got it to use as a stand for a more comfortable typing position, but as said before just getting some airflow under the machine will help.

Might also be a videocard issue. I've gotten stuff like that playing civ IV on mine.

sigh... I think I'm going to wait for Lion OS X 10.7.2 update to come out... because I'm really having a hard time seeing where the video card issue is at. This didn't happen before...

However, my laptop seems to be running a little faster because it is cooler... Laptop cooler needs to stay.
