I have a question - not sure who governs salary laws, whether it is state based or nationally regulated. I work at a facility where children have birthday parties and other parties like that. The owner of the facility requires the manager to ask the paying group at the end of each party if they want to leave a bonus for the staff. Unfortunately the owner keeps all the bonuses for himself, despite the fact that he isn't even at the facility during the parties.

My question - I don't really care about the actual money as its just a weekend part time job which I don't think we really need to be bonused for, but I view this as pretty unethical, especially when you are specifying the bonus is for the staff and keeping it for yourself.

It does sound un-ethical however I believe there is no law that covers things like that.

I'd just rob the fucker blind or something - figure out a way to imbezzle, maybe hold 'em up at gunpoint, break into their house and kidnap the kids and throw 'em in the trunk or something and try to get ransom...you'd probably make more progress doing all that.

if the owner explicitly states that the money is going to the staff, then I believe that is fraud for falsely representing where the funds are going.

well...you might have a point were there not a glaring issue with my account of the situation

first, i say that the owner isn't even there...and yet he is somehow telling patrons that their tip is going to employees who WERE there? how does that work?

don't ask me...i'm just here to bitch about how hard my life is

i believe you can write a letter to the IRS. He would probably get audited. It would complicate his ass for the next 5 years atleast.

If the owner is telling the manager to tell the patrons the money is going to the staff but the money is going to the owner then that is fraud. Just because he uses a middle man to pass the word doesn't change that.

how do you know he's not saving it to surprise you with a big bonus in a month.

And there you'll be, feeling like an asshole for getting him audited by an anonymous tip.
