eh as long as it wasn't like JIF or some over-salted PB I don't see how it's a problem.

oh, it wasn't BAD...i've used peanut butter in hummus before, but not in baba ghanouj
it's better suited as a substitute in the hummus 9/7/2011 8:09:36 AM

Kudos to you, bro. One of the very few advantages of living in the ME is having access to freshly made hummus, mutabbal, baba ghanouj, tabbouleh, and other similar stuff, within walking distance of no matter where you live. Available in restaurants, supermarkets, food stalls, kiosks, etc.
Interestingly, what you made is called as "mutabbal" here. Baba Ghanouj here refers to another cold appetizer, also made with eggplant. This one is eggplant (mashed), finely chopped tomato, and lemon juice and herbs/spices. As there is no tahina, it is non-creamy, and therefore quite refreshing. Wonder if that one is available in the US, and if so, what it is called.
Good read, if you like egg plant: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eggplant_salads_and_appetizers
