HEY GUYS DID YOU KNOW IT'S THE TEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF 9/11?!?!?!?!?!?

I swear if I hear one more fluff story about 9/11 on NPR I'm going to drive to the American Tobacco Campus and rage in their office, and then probably get arrested

I wouldn't mind it if it's a story here or there but there might as well be absolutely nothing else going on in the world right now.

I, too, am like STFU about 9/11. Yeah, it was sad, but jesus give it a break.

And how convenient that a PLAUSIBLE BUT UNKNOWN THREAT INVOLVING THREE MEN, VEHICLES, AND EXPLOSIVES is being revealed so everyone is SUPER freaked and OVER dramatic.

I, for one, appreciate all these stories of courage and bravery that I get to hear every year about this time. It keeps my faith in human beings strong. Also, there are many of us who are closely connected to NYC or DC and know people who were directly affected - perhaps those of us who are close to it have stronger emotions towards it.

But this is TWW so I don't waste time/energy arguing with the people who mock it.

Ehh one of my aunts was working in the Pentagon and had her office pwned by debris. After hearing the same stories 10 years in a row I couldn't care less. Like many things, media is good at desensitizing people to events.

Only interesting thing I've seen about 9/11 so far this year is this: http://www.livescience.com/15914-flashbulb-memory-september-11.html

about how flashbulb memories aren't as infallible as we thought they were.

So...while the media will overhype this (they over hype everything, so who cares?) it was the biggest attack on American soil for quite a while and attacked the cultural and economic center of the country. So yeah it's still a BFD you jerks.

Slayer released a pretty mediocre album.

And yeah, every time I turn on the news I wonder if it actually is 9/11 because of all the stories they are running, but then I take a glance at the calendar and remember that 9/11 is actually this Sunday.

All kidding aside though,

you can bitch all you want to about this.

but many of these stories/shows are revealing information never seen/heard by the general public. much of it is very interesting. victim's stories that were overshadowed/never heard are very moving, but what I find more interesting are the shows regarding intelligence/gov't/military/etc successes, failures, history, effects, and changes.

I find those interesting as well. What I don't find interesting are stories like I heard this morning on the radio where they're interviewing this woman and it was basically:

Reporter: So you saw the Towers go down?
Woman: Well no, not really, I was in my office in midtown.
Reporter: But you could see the smoke that day?
Woman: Yeah I guess.
Reporter: That must have been terrifying.
Woman: Yeah I guess.

How does an editor listen to that and go, "Oh yeah, this is hard hitting journalism right here. Let's put it on the air." Just because you happen to be alive that day doesn't mean you have anything interesting or insightful to say on the topic
