It really doesn't bother me. I have a separate account for stuff like facebook anyway that of check about once a week or less. I just thought it was funny they sent out an email to let everyone know that they would be cutting back on the number of emails they send users.

the people it will impact most are the ones that don't use facebook very often or don't have very many contacts. maybe these people rely on an email to tell them something happened.

I was kind of pissed when they changed mine one night because it was on a day I had browsed Facebook and replied to a couple things. Woke up in the morning and thought nobody had replied to me

I actually enjoy the notifications because I get them on my phone and use it as a sort of thread reminder. I'll forget to respond if I don't have something there, and they're fun to read later. Most people I keep up with on facebook are friends who aren't physically near me, though.
