You may be familiar with the concept from Malcolm Gladwell that to master something it takes about 10,000 hours. What things have you mastered?

As for myself, I don't think I've mastered anything really. I have found in several instances in my life that I pursue a thing passionately for a period of time until I become capable or dare I say excellent at the thing and where I can recognize mastery in that thing, then I quickly find myself disinterested in that thing and start a new pursuit

Driving.

Other than that, I can't really think of anything that I've spend so much time doing that I have mastered it.

Next, we should discuss experts vs. novices.

nothing. I'll go through phases where I'm really into something (some sort of hobby) for a months, or even years...but I slowly lose interest in it.

I wouldn't say that I have achieved "Mastery," but I have put that much time into reading, writing, and playing the piano.

I always thought that his 10,000 hours qualifier was pretty arbitrary. Has that been used anywhere else?
