Same. The military is a microcosm of normal people. There are fuck ups, people who deserve to be praised, people who go above and beyond, and people who just do their jobs.

I just don't understand how every military action is automatically a defense of our freedom. I don't get the connection. Which freedoms are these? All of them? If we hadn't invaded ______ or bombed ______, would we be enslaved by an unnamed entity? The military has all sorts of people, like any profession, but I don't agree with the pedestal we put it on. Questioning the pedestal usually gets me an accusation of being unpatriotic (I don't understand that one, either), so I don't bring it up very much.

Exactly. The stereotypes are huge pet-peeve. I just never tell anyone I'm in the military, but the haircut and out-of-state tags are a dead giveaway.

Paying for undergrad and masters degrees...So im not complaining.

I don't normally tell people I'm in the military either...it almost always results in an uncomfortable conversation, either talking down to me like I'm some brainless robot or some ridiculous sappy shit about how thankful they are....it's weird....i don't like being thanked for it cuz there are always others doing much more than i do....I also hate our government, so I don't like that stereotype either. Less than 1% serve though, so I don't expect them to know or understand much.....whatever. It's fucking weird.....

I was flying home from basic/tech school and we had to fly home in our blues for whatever fucking reason. So many people came up to me in the airport to thank me for my service....it was weird.
