I would like to sell my MacBook Pro and have done several upgrades that I'm unsure how to price.
I started with the everymac website to understand the value
http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/stats/macbook_pro_1.83.html
I bought it new in April 2006 for $1999.00
The $700-800 price is the est current retail for the $2,499 model
In late 2009 I upgraded the RAM to 1.5 and hard drive to 400G. I also upgraded it from Lion to Snow Leopard
Additionally, it has a relatively new power cable (the new L design one that current models come with, not the old T style) and I have an HDMI cable that goes with it plus the screwdriver kit to take the laptop apart.
The battery needs to be replaced but you can still use the laptop for a short period of time without the power cable plugged in.
It is in great condition and for the past 2 years and I have kept the silicone-type keyboard cover on it to keep crap from falling into the keyboard and also to minimize the keys pressing on the screen (which you can see when the screen is off but not when it's turned on). The case has less than 5 visible scratches. It has been taken care of very well.
Oh yeah, I also still have the little remote that comes with it to control movies, music etc.
Any help with pricing it with the upgrades would be appreciated. Will likely list it on craigslist and or ebay or would even sell it on here if someone was interested. I might even have the original box but I don't think people care about that seeing how aged the computer is. 9/25/2011 12:58:51 PM |

I think seven hundred is insane for a $2500 five year old computer. Maybe half that.
Admittedly I know nothing about pricing these, but I would pqy more than 300 for a five year old computer. 9/25/2011 2:16:39 PM |

When you consider the RAM ceiling is 2GB and it’s a core duo (not even a core 2 duo), you’d be lucky if you tricked someone into paying $700 for that. I think Lion’s min spec ram is 1GB, and that only has 512mb more.
I think the BEST case scenario is $500, and if I were advising a friend, i’d tell them not to pay more than $250-300 for that laptop. If the battery was working, that helps a great deal for laptops. 9/25/2011 2:21:55 PM |

Forge a steve jobs signature on it and sell it for the asking price, otherwise, you are stupid to think that's worth 700 bucks.
You can get the same used laptops with a decent battery for 300-400 or even less. And honestly, if someone has a clue, you can buy a certain normal PC laptop and turn it into a hackintosh for the same price with modern components. Shit for 700-800, spend a little more and buy a brand new mac laptop that will still be faster than your piece of shit. 9/25/2011 2:51:06 PM |

Yeah that's pretty old. I'd say no more than $200-250. 9/25/2011 3:34:23 PM |

Chill out everyone, I know it's not worth $700
I was just showing my work and posted what I had found (and the $700 price, I pointed out, was for a model more heavily spec'd than mine)
I obviously don't expect to get that much out of it. I am just looking for a starting point considering the updates I have done to it aren't common on models I can find for sale on craigslist or ebay
$500 would be a dream and I don't expect to get that either. $300 would be nice though 9/25/2011 4:09:36 PM |

I'd expect it would sell fairly quickly on Craigslist if you set the asking price at $400, that's what I would price it at personally and accept if someone offers $300-350. You can always lower the price if you don't get any bites.
Most major problem: It won't run Lion. Lion requires a minimum of a Core 2 Duo (and will error out if you try on a Core Duo). 9/25/2011 7:03:03 PM |

I said I would pay more than 300, meant wouldn't
Dohhh.
Put it up on Craig's list for 350, see if you get any bites. Knock it down if you dont. 9/26/2011 2:35:05 PM |

haha yes i meant leopard to snow leopard
damn trolls, get out from under my bridge!! you know what i meant!
im about damn ready to list it in the classifieds for $750 to troll the people in this thread who can't read
in all actuality i probably should just hold on to it and get a tablet. i was considering a new laptop bc i could put all the programs i need for work on it and it would be way lighter than what i currently have. plus work gives me a dell that is 5 years old and heavier than "the piece of shit i already have"
i dont even travel with my mac anymore bc i am scared of some devastating event that would kill it. i just leave it either on the coffee table or bedside table and all i do is surf the interwebs, shop online, facebook, email and store my pictures and what little music i have 9/26/2011 10:21:06 PM |

If thats all you do, tablet for sure. Its a lot more comfortable to chill on the couch and do the internets thing.
But when it comes to typing long drawn out crap, or doing spreadsheets and the like, gotta have a laptop.
Or get a netbook or an air or something. 9/26/2011 10:31:47 PM |
