They let me through airport security with a knife.

And it wasn't that they didn't know about it. I had a butter knife in my backpack that I had long forgotten about and was under the laptop compartment in my backpack. I couldn't see it, and I ended up having to dump the contents of my backpack. Well, we finally find it, the agent takes it out, I say "Keep it," and she hands it back to me and says "Oh, it's ok, it's not serrated." What the fuck?

Yeah, it's a butter knife, incapable of breaking the skin on a baby's wrist, but still!

I ended up leaving it at the airport chilli's to avoid future hassle.

So they're idiots for letting you through with something that they (using common sense) say isn't really a weapon??

You're the one who left it in your bag, and the agent recognized that wasn't dangerous.... sounds to me like you got a smart agent who honestly looks for stuff that could be harmful on an airplane.

Do you also call people stupid who don't turn their cell phone off or leave their headphones in the Take-off??

I forgot I had a swiss army knife in my purse once. It was surround by tampons and I forgot about it. It was sentimental so I didn't want to have to throw it away. Luckily, after a few runs through the x-ray machine and multiple people looking at the screen, they let it pass through and never physically searched by purse.

Who's to say I couldn't sharpen the knife? Her reasoning for giving back to me is because it's not "serrated." Her words, not mine. You do realize that we had a few airplanes hijacked with box cutters and here they are allowing people with butter knives on board?

And yeah, people who don't turn their cell phone off during take-off are stupid. And their refusal to put it in airplane mode is even more idiotic.

agreed.

i've heard they hijack planes with guns, so they shouldn't let rubber bands and paper clips through either.

They let me through with a knife before- they didn't even "notice" it (at least, they never took it out of my purse). Forgot it was there- and this was no butter knife. Basically one of these:

I once went through with an X-acto razor in my backpack. I believe it rolled off my desk and fell in my open backpack when I was at home. Crammed some books/clothes in went to the airport, went through security, and surprised the hell out of myself when I was digging around in the bottom of the bag trying to find something.

Large cans of shaving cream
Axe deoderant
Large toothpaste
Large body was

ord, lax and lga are the only airports that have ever made me follow the rules about brining liquids and aerosols through.

One time I made it through with a bottle of water. I always try, because its my cost of like 10 cents a bottle, but once you get through its almost 3$ a bottle. So even if i loose it at the gate each time, as long as I make it through every few times i'm banking.

Sorry, but cell phones don't inherently affect airplane sensors any more than the tons of electromagnetic energy and radio waves already going through the air. The equipment is heavily shielded because the plane is 35k feet closer to the sun -- less atmosphere and more solar radiation, electromagnetic waves, etc.

The jury's out on whether USING the phone does anything, but only b/c the companies don't want to spend the money on the tests when they could use that money to build better aircraft.

But yea, TSA are idiots. Once you're on board they give you knives & forks to eat with... You could bash someone over the head with a laptop. You could fashion pretty much anything into a weapon. It's retarded, a waste of time and resources, but OH EM GEE it keeps us safe from da ebull tewowists... Give me a break.

I was going to post a joke about them letting me through with c-4 and det cord and a couple of claymores and all that sort of stuff and then decided I'd rather stay off the watch list.

So I didn't post it. I posted this that basically DETAILS THE SAME SHIT OMFG I'LL NEVER BE ALLOWED TO FLY AGAIN

I flew with one of these in my carry on bag once:

I completely forgot it was in the bag and didn't even mean to bring it. I discovered it after I got back from my trip (so it was undetected twice). On the other hand the last time I flew I had a battery powered lantern in my carry on bag and it was flagged by the X ray inspector. I had to dump everything out of the bag and show them the lantern...which they then put through the X ray machine again, by itself.

hahaha there are some cynical bastards on this site. let me know when someone hijacks an airplane with a plastic fork and/or a laptop

so you contend that screening for weapons and explosives is a waste of time and resources? whats your solution?

I may or may not have flown with a(n) item(s) forbidden on aircraft within the U.S. This may or may not have been due to forgetfulness and/or inadequate airport security.

If you really want to kill a bunch of people... in the line at airport security would be a good place. Here's what I would do. Load up a laptop case or something similar with explosives, get in line, leave it sitting next to one of the little rope stanchions, go through security, detonate bomb killing a whole bunch of folks waiting to get screened for weapons. Just as simple, pop out of your car and gun down a shitload of people at the ticket counter.

Airport security is a joke. The shoe bomber, the underwear bomber... not really threats. An honest to god well planned attempt to hijack a plane today will probably be successful now just like it would have been 20 years ago. The TSA is not really for security, it's to provide the illusion of security and continue the total pacification of the populace and indoctrination of a police state mentality.

Does anybody with a functional brain in their head think that they're doing anything to make flying safer? Does groping every grandmother who's fake hip sets off the metal detectors do anything to make us safer? Are people aware of how many of their own tests that TSA has failed in major airports across the country? Their record is abysmal and it's infuriating to know that thanks to the sheeple who live here it's probably an agency that will never go away and will eventually expand to buses, trains, and any other form of public conveyance they can get their hooks into.

Meh, whatever. It's nothing different than has been said by many, many other people. Anytime you create a cluster of people there's the opportunity for danger, especially if it's already something that criminals would target.

Anytime there's a line or a known gathering of people, there's the potential for somebody to kill a bunch of folks. Not a lot you can do to stop a truly dedicated murderer. Just look at all the suicide bombers who blow themselves up in markets. Fortunately we don't have a large population of people willing to do that kind of thing. Threats of jail time aren't a deterrent for someone with no regard for their own life.

HAHAHAHA... wow... you're such an idiot!! DID you even read that or have any idea what frequencies aircraft FMS receives on!?!? The cell phone rule is for europe where they have VHF Immune ILS approaches. (They cut all the ILS frequencies in half so they can have more without them interfering) And it's for OLD cell phones.. like the motorola bag phone from 1990 or the one Zak Morris on Saved by the Bell.

I'm going to also assume that you believed the Facebook was going to start charging unless you reposted that status...

my dad had his nail clippers taken away by TSA, that makes them stupid. Allowing people to keep things that aren't actually weapons gives me hope.

I am pretty sure they took it because my dad is huge, but still they are nail clippers, not even the big ones for toe nails.

I got selected for an enhanced dickgroping after forgetting to take of my wedding band in the backscatter machine at LAX. I thought I was pissed until I turned around and saw they were doing the same thing to Hulk Hogan. Pretty sure we barely avoided an acute case of Hulkamania there.

Then why are US organizations and airliners reporting incidents where interference from a passenger's electronic device was believed to be the source of anomalies if the problem is only in Europe and hasn't been a problem since the 90s (according to you).
