I despise tanning salons in general however due to a large amount of exposed skin for my Halloween costume, I'd rather not look like Casper.
Anybody able to recommend an INEXPENSIVE tanning salon in Raleigh? I would only use the lay-down beds, no more than 15 minutes a session, but looking to do a good handful of sessions (probably six minimum). 10/3/2011 1:14:28 PM

SunTanCity at 40/42 does free spray tans if it is your first one with them. Offer good Sun-Wed.

^all Sun Tan City's do that
if you're only tanning for a month, let me help you out (I actually used to manage a tanning salon):
find all the local tanning salons (STC, Vivid Tan, Ultra Tan, Planet Beach, Cabana Tan, etc) and go to their websites. most have coupons for first time customers or small packages (like buy 3 get 2 free). also check out the "crazy coupons" publication (they're all around the ncsu/meredith area) because they tend to have coupons as well.
use a lotion. yes, they can be expensive but are totally worth it and will help your skin and help you tan faster (esp. if you get a bronzer). I think Cabana Tan does some trade in special if you bring in an old lotion they'll give you a discount on a new one. 10/3/2011 1:57:10 PM

^^My family owned a salon.
If she doesnt want a permanent tan and just wants it for one day, go spray tan. Its cheaper and way more effective because you prolly wont go EVERY day to the salon. Thats where we made our money..people that hardly ever went and we did auto-checking.
No lotions, no goggles, no gas back and forth...spray tan is cheaper. Unless you are a stripper or hooters girl. 10/3/2011 2:10:09 PM

Ha ha ha, news flash, I'm a guy... and a furry one at that. Spray tans don't really work well in that situation!
begonias I'll have to see what I can find. I'm debating signing up for Planet Fitness for a month just to use the tanning beds. 10/3/2011 2:19:44 PM

if you're interested, I have an unopened pair of goggles and some barely-used lotions I'm willing to part with for a couple bucks.
and I also have a free week of tanning coupon at STC. 10/3/2011 4:22:01 PM

^^read the ingredients.
stay away from things containing: *mineral oil - breaks down the acrylics on the beds *petrolatum/wax - makes the product sit on top of your skin and not get absorbed and thus not hydrated *acetone/alcohol (denatured, isopropyl, SD-40) - dry your skin thus making your tan fade faster *these ingredients are common in cheap drugstore/walmart lotions
bronzers: *contain a little bit of self-tanner for more immediate results *wipe off your palms after applying *good for people who want to get darker than they would naturally
accelerators: *hydrates skin to aid UV absorption (dry skin will reflect more rays) *good for people who want a base tan without going overboard
hot action/tingle: *use it if you like the sensation of being burned *some people say these get them the darkest (but be careful, it's a pretty intense sensation)
cooling: *counter act the heat of the bed *feels like the "icy" part of icy hot *good if you don't like being hot
I wouldn't recommend buying online. although it may be a lot cheaper, I've seen sooooo many people who bought stuff online and it turned out to be crap (i.e. just regular lotion in the tanning lotion bottle). also, if you look at company's websites, they all say they ONLY sell to tanning salons (and any other retailer sells lotions that are bunk/expired/contaminated). 10/3/2011 7:24:00 PM

ohhh, that was a very in-depth response and I appreciate it. I think I'll aim for an accelerator. I tan very easily, but with the weather changing, my skin dries out really badly. 10/4/2011 12:32:03 PM
