So I've been using gamefly for a while now and just recently saw that Blockbuster is being a lot more competitive in the gaming rental market. $15 a month gets you video games AND movies (with bluray and 2 at a time). Gamefly costs $23 for 2 games at a time and it takes FOREVER for the games to ship. Has anyone made the switch? Is the shipping time better or worse? 10/10/2011 9:47:05 AM |

I looked into it a while ago, and their library seemed pretty limited. Plus they seemed to be 1 -2 months behind on new releases. 10/10/2011 10:04:08 AM |

I just checked that and you are correct. New releases are about 3-4 months behind their release date.
I just checked the release date for Gears of War 3 and it's going to be available January 3, 2012.
That's just unacceptable.
Blockbuster still doesn't get it. I don't know why I'm surprised. This company sucked it's way to bankruptcy. I guess I just figured they would learn eventually.

I've heard the turnaround for gamefly is terrible. They need more distribution centers.
I don't rent all that much so Redbox works for me. BTW here's a tip for Redbox if it's in a convenient and nearby location and you're cheap enough to care about saving $2 . Games are $2 a day but when you rent them they aren't due until 9 the following day. So to optimize your rental time to cost, take them back at 9pm the day they are due and rent them again the next morning. You miss out on a night of gaming but save 2 bucks. 10/10/2011 11:18:42 AM |

Gamefly has gotten better. I usually get my games in about 2 days...so I guess there is a 4 day turn around. 2 for the game to get to gamefly and 2 to ship. 10/10/2011 2:11:01 PM |

I've never understood people who rent a shitload of games. I'd rather play a few good games than 1000 shitty ones. Read the reviews, but the ones you wants, disregard the rest.10/10/2011 2:48:38 PM |

I don't rent a ton, maybe 5 or 6 a year, but i mean if i buy 6 new games $360 if I pay the gamefly fee I only pay $180 10/10/2011 2:51:22 PM |

^^ I will say that I've thought about that because I'm cheap, but never actually done it because i'm lazy. 10/10/2011 2:56:49 PM |

Because I like to play games and I go through them pretty quickly. I don't play shitty games though. I usually wait for several weeks for the reviews to fall in unless it is a game I know is going to be good and has solid replay value. Examples would be MW3 or Gears of War 3. There are a ton of good games being released all the time that have good storyline and fun gameplay but once you beat them, there is no replay value. Therefore, I don't buy them, I rent them. Examples would be Assassin's Creed 1-3, Bioshock (although I do own 1 because that game is just sick), Batman Arkham City, etc.
