People still vote? Lol
I don't get the point. Even in local politics no politician sticks to anything they say, what am I supposed to research what their supporters are going to pay them to do?

I haven't changed my license/voter registration to my new address in Cary from Burlington yet so I couldn't vote. *shrug* I would have been inclined to vote for the Frantz guy since I just had my truck fixed by them last week despite their $85/hr labor rate! 10/11/2011 4:14:22 PM

Eh, I just don't like the current incumbent mayor due to his reaction to the Cooper trial issue. His blog postings praising the work of CPD showed he just cares about Cary's image, and not improving the police force, or the city itself.
Quote : | "“Thank you for copying me on this email. I just want to express my sincerest thanks to our police department. Despite the assaults by the media you stood with integrity and in the end justice was done. I am so very proud to be an elected official of a town that has the greatest police department in the state. Thanks to all the men and women for all you do each and every day. Please know that you have my complete confidence and backing. And while I don’t usually speak for the council without asking, I am sure you have theirs too.
Great job! Take care!”" |
Quote : | "The Nancy Cooper case was a sad and tragic chapter in Cary’s history. Our town manager and police chief did a great job of addressing our police department’s involvement in this case. I have the utmost respect and trust of our police chief and her department and I think they do a superb job day in and day out. They are a major reason we remain one of the safest places in America. I am proud to be associated with such a fine police department.
I believe the newspaper did a hatchet job on one of the premiere communities in Cary, Lochmere, especially in the story ‘Case was Lifestyles of the “Popular” and “Affluent”‘. There are a lot of great people and families that live in Lochmere and they do not deserve implication that they are something they are not. Cary is a great community and one of the most desirable places to live in the United States. One of the main reasons for this is the people that call Cary home and yes that includes Lochmere. " |
Even if you think Cooper was guilty, I think you have to be delusional to think CPD didn't screw it up (erased blackberry, contaminated forensics scene, not photographing or collecting evidence, leaving computer on for 27 hours, etc.)

I registered 100 voters today on campus.
I mean it was too late for these local elections, although I did hand out several nonpartisan voter guides with info on candidates and voting times to people who were already registered, but 100 new NCSU voters were added to the rolls today.
A good day for democracy IMO. 10/11/2011 6:29:20 PM

People in the US need to get over this "everyone vote" fetish. A vast majority of people don't know who they're voting for...particularly as long as straight party votes are allowed.
I want informed voters before I want a high turnout. Sad thing is, we currently have low turnout and not a single fuck is given at the polls about who people are voting for. 10/11/2011 6:45:09 PM

Quote : | "In the school board races overall, turnout was about 21 percent of registered voters, which doesn't sound like a lot but is twice the turnout of the 2009 elections, in which the Republicans seized their 5-4 board majority." |
Wow, 21% is pretty impressive for a local only election.

I said the exact same thing to my husband yesterday. I'd much rather people who actually research the candidates and vote based on that turnout than 20 million morons that have no idea who is running, much less where they stand on issues.
